I thought of this this morning and it's been bothering me since, so I thought I'd post it.
What if the sinister duo were the Baudelaire parents?
Crazy, right? Here are the reasons I think why: -We have no clue as to who the Baudelaire mom is (probably not B, not K....so who?) -This would explain the constant referring to the hoarse and deep voices, Voice Fakery Disguises. -This would explain why O is afraid of them, because they killed his parents. -The woman with hair but no beard, and the two parents play backgammon. The man with beard but no hair may not, but he probably does, because they're grouped together all the time. -They may be the survivors of the fire.
Some disproving reasons: -Lemony is afraid of them, possibly because he doesn't recognize them, but we're not sure. -The Baudelaires have no suspicions about them whatsoever. -This is the MOST disproving reason: This has to be some pretty good disguising. Almost all of the VFD disguises are disguised as a specific thing, and these are not. No one suspects them of any disguising, and Lemony hasn't hinted at anything.
Probably total BS, but I just wanted to state it.

Your reasons for are sound, but your reasons are against pretty much destroy it. I've also heard it speculated that they're Mr. and Eleanora/Polly Poe, but that fails for the same reason: The Baudelaires would obviously recognise them, even if nobody else did. ...Plus Lemony's named the Baudelaire father and all the Poes, but he said he couldn't name the sinister duo.
Edit: Also, the man with a beard but no hair says of Sunny, on TSS p127: "Well, well, well. I've heard so much about this little orphan. She's caused almost as many problems as her parents did." If he's Bertrand, it'd be a very odd thing for him to say.

They can't be the Baudelaire parents, because as Dante said the orphans would have recognised them.

Yeah, the baudelaires know their parents EXTRAORDINARILY well and are good at seeing through disguises in any case(except oddly enough, those of Olaf's assistants). And there again is Dante's proof that Lemony named the Baudelaire fat- wait. He didn't exactly name him he just recalled an incident. hmm. But yes, the sinister duo does indeed seem against the parents. Though that could be just part of the disguise if this theory is true. Wouldn't that be awful? I'm still of the mind that they're Olaf's siblings.
