I personally doubt it's a guidebook. I think it's probably much like the U.A., or the BBRE notes - giving out a lot of hints that make no sense on their own but all tie into Book the Thirteenth.

Aaahhh...Once again I bow to your insight. That does make sense. But when was the last time Handler ever did what we expected? Speaking of Book 13, do you think it will be another fall release like the last few books? (If I recall correctly THH was the last book to be released in the spring.) The only place I have seen a date is Amazon Canada, which says Book 13 will be released July, 2006. That would put this "clue book" or whatever about half way between 12 and 13. ( I just don't imagine H-C giving us so much so fast. They seem to enjoy making us wait.)

I think that Book the Thirteenth will probably be released around autumn, as the last two books and the next one have and were. Although... When did HarperCollins start doing the one-aSoUE-book-a-year scam?

I think it's been since TCC. (I didn't discover ASOUE until just before THH release, so I don't know about before that.)

The first few books, I understand, were all released in the same year. But then Handler started taking longer to write them, as they became longer and more complicated.
I agree that this Notorious Notations book will have clues that relate to Book 13, even if they won't make much sense at first.

If Notorious Notations was to be a clue book to Book the Thirteenth, then we can probably assume that LSUA doesn't have Book the Thirteenth clues in it.
I think it will be a Rare Edition of TRR & TWW combined with little snippets of the Quagmire story and other characters' perspectives.

I personally have never been comfortable with the idea of there being rare (or any "special") editions of anything but Book the First... But it's Handler's series, and not mine. I suppose one could argue that the first three are the classics of the series.

Actually, rather than classics, I meant they were pre-VFD. He didn't leave any intentional clues in them.

Perhaps the Notorious Notations will mainly cover the previously un-noted VFD clues in the pre-VFD books.
I don't think we'll get any more rare editions.

Although, the release date doesn't make sense. It should have already been released. Oops. Typo on my part. It should say 2006 instead of 2005. I've fixed it now. Ah, excellent. I was wondering if I was going crazy, since no one else had seemed to notice it. But releasing it before Book Thirteen doesn't really make sense, if it is supposed to tie up loose ends and whatnot. It it is supposed to do that, perhaps the release date will be postponed. I haven't quite decided what I think this will be.

Saturday has come, and I have added the Notorious Notations to the first post. My apologies to josh.

It is most probably another UA sort of thing.
Oh, and while looking through Amazon.com, I also came across what appears to be yet another edition of the Bad Beginning - A Series of Unfortunate Events #1: The Bad Beginning Private Library Edition (A Series of Unfortunate Events), to be released on November 1st this year. Does anyone know what is meant by "private library edition"?

That, I'm afraid, has been on the front page of this thread for some time. We don't have a clue what it is, though. First thoughts are something akin to the BBRE.

Oh, terribly sorry. I didn't bother reading through the whole thread... Also, how is the release date of the boxed set Oct. 1st, when the 12th book is only released on the 18th?
