USING PERSONAL MESSAGES
A. How to Read Your Personal Messages
In the upper right hand corner of your screen you will see the words: Hey, (your name) you have (your number of messages) (how many messages are new). To read any of your messages (new or otherwise), click on your number of messages. You can differentiate the new messages from the old by the envelope icon near the right edge of your screen. If the envelope is open , then it has been previously read. If the envelope is closed, then the message is new. If the envelope is open and has an arrow on it , you have already read the message and have sent a reply to the person who sent it to you.
B. How to Send a Personal Message
There are three ways to send a Personal Message:
1. This is the easiest way to send a Personal Message. Find a post by the member you want to send a message to. Under the member’s avatar and personal text there is this picture . Click on that picture and you will be sent to what looks like the screen you use when you are replying to a topic or making a new topic. Type in a subject, and then type your message. Press the word “Send” near the bottom of your screen and the Personal Message will be instantaneously sent to your recipient.
2. The second way is relatively easy, although it is a longer process. Find a post by the person you want to send a Personal Message to. Click on their username and you will be sent to their profile. At the top of the profile screen there is a link that says "send this member a Personal Message" click that, and then send the message.
3. The third and final way to send a Personal Message requires that you know the original username of the recipient. Go to your Personal Message inbox and click on , compose a message and enter the original username of the recipient into the “To” box.
C. Everything Else About Personal Messages
1. How to Use Your Outbox
Your outbox is the place that contains copy of all the messages you’ve sent. Your outbox can be reached when you press this button .
2. Deleting Your Personal Messages
There are two ways to delete your Personal Messages:
a. In your in- or outboxes to the right of the icons that tell you if you have read a message or not there is a box. To delete a message go to its box and click it. That should create a check in the box. After you check the box go to either the top of the screen or the bottom of the screen and in the right hand corner you will see a button with the word delete on it. Click that button to get rid of your message/s.
b. Click on the “Delete All” icon, and click “Okay” in the confirmation box.
3. Your Preferences
To see your preferences click on this button .
a. The Ignore List To put any member/s on you ignore list, just type their original username into the box provided.
b. Notification To get notified by email when you receive a new Personal Message, click the box to put a check in it.
c. Saving After making any changes to your preferences, click the save preferences button near the bottom of the screen.
4. Backing Up Your Personal Messages
To receive a zipped file containing back-ups of your Personal Messages, click on “Backup Messages” and follow the instructions there.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT YOUR SIGNATURE AND AVATAR
A. Your Signature
Your signature is one of the numerous ways to express yourself at 667 Dark Avenue. It is important that you use your signature to show something about you that makes you unique. For example, you may use a poem to express your creativity or a banner to show your drawing or internet related skills. You may simply put a quote you find interesting, a link to your webpage, or just some information about yourself. Make sure if you use anything created by someone other than yourself you get permission from said person. 1. Your signature can be found by pressing this button , and then selecting “Modify Profile.” Go to the bottom of the page and you will see this: Signature: Signatures are displayed at the bottom of each post or instant message. UBBC code may be used in your signature. 2. When using a banner in your signature use UBBC code. Such as:
Code:| |
|
3. Don’t forget that you can only have 300 characters in your signature.
B. Your Avatar An avatar can be just about anything. You can use a number of things to show personality with your own avatar.
1. Click the profile button just as you would when you are going to change your signature but right before you get to your signature you’ll see this: Personal Text:
Personalized Picture:
Select one or specify a web path (example: http://www.image.com/picture.gif) to your own image. Please note that your image must be gif or jpg and that it will be resized.
Avatar:
Avatar URL:
Custom Avatar Width:
Custom Avatar Height:
For your personal text write a message that will appear underneath your avatar. Personalized Picture is the same thing as an avatar. There is a selection of different avatars to choose from under the “Avatar” drop-down menu, or you may also use a picture of your own. 2. If you want to use a custom picture right-click the picture and go to Properties on the drop down menu. In properties you will see the dimensions and the URL both essential for a custom picture. Put this URL in the “Avatar URL” box and fill in the width and height. However, a picture cannot be larger than 100x100, so you may need to scale the dimensions down.
DISPLAYING IMAGES
Images: To put an image in your post, click on the little grey button in the post page which looks like this: . Click that and then replace the “IMAGE” text with the URL of your picture. To put them in your signature when you don’t have the grey button, just type out Code:| |
|
.
UPLOADING IMAGES
To upload pictures you first need to save the image on your computer.
Then you find a place to upload.
Imageshack Photobucket
Imageshack is one of the best free image-hosting sites. With Photobucket, you can register your account and then upload your images to your own private gallery.
WHY ARE MY PICTURES SO BIG?
So now you know how to upload and display images, but for some reason, when you display your images they are either very large or very small, or just not what you planned at all.
If you want to change the size of your image, you must modify the original file on your computer, and upload again.
WHY IS NO ONE RESPONDING TO MY POST?
Sometimes there are members who don't understand why there is not a quicker response. This is a forum, not a chatroom so even if you do type out a response there may not always be someone online to answer quickly like they would in a chatroom.
Also sometimes, unfortunately, some threads/posts are not replied to – this is an unavoidable fact of life. However, this is quite rare.
HOW COME I'M A NASTY NEWCOMER? I'M NOT NASTY!
That is the ranking system according to the number of posts you have, and once you post a certain number your title automatically changes.
When you reach 6670 the admin or global moderator creates your custom title for you. If you have the proper number of posts and would like to be upgraded please visit the advancement thread. Nasty Newcomer- 0 Reptile Researcher- 10+ Catastrophic Captain- 50+ Formidable Foreman- 100+ Pessimistic Professor- 200+ Devious Doorman- 300+ Vindictive Villager- 400+ Splenetic Surgeon- 500+ False Fortune-Teller- 1,000+ Xenial Xylophone- 2,000+ Miserable Mariner- 3,000+ Corrupt Concierge- 4,000+ Definitely Doomed- 5,000+ Custom Title- 6670+

WHAT IS A MODERATOR? AND HOW DO I BECOME ONE?
A moderator is someone appointed by the admin (The admin is the person who created this forum and is the one in charge).
The moderator's duties include but are not limited to moving threads to the proper section, deleting off-topic and/or rude posts and to help answer/assist any members who have forum related questions/problems.
If you'd like to become a moderator keep an eye out for any announcements. When the admin would like another moderator the admin will post an announcement in order to alert interested parties. The requirements for being a moderator are that:
(a) You must have at least 1000 posts (b) You do not have your own message board (c) You participate in The Otiose Objectives (d) You have not received a strike in 3 months and (e) You have never been banned before.
Note that the requirements may be disregarded in very special cases. This is in accordance with 667 Dark Avenue Administrative Decree #5.
Click here to read all of 667 Dark Avenue's Decrees.
WHY DO I NEED A 100 POSTS TO ADVERTISE MY WEBSITE?
Why? Just because that's why. Actually because we'd like to cut back on spam, and because we do not want the forum to became a breeding ground for shameless advertising. So if you want to advertise then 667 requires you to be a contributing member to our growing society.
WHERE DO WE POST NON-ASOUE ART, RPG AND FAN FICTIONS?
For non-asoue art and fan fictions try the Chaotic Creativity section.
Typically we allow non-asoue RPGs in Relentless RPGS.
WHY CAN'T GUESTS POST?
Guests have been banned from posting because in the past we've had a few troublemakers spam as guests. Instead of having the moderators work over time, and having the peace of the forum be continually disturbed it was decided that guests should be banned from posting.
HOW DO I ACCESS THE TOP POSTERS LIST? All related member list information.
If you'd like to access the list of members by post count, click here.

WHY IS IT RUDE TO TYPE IN BIG LETTERS, OR STRETCH THE PAGE?
Do you even have to ask? Sometimes as a joke it might be necessary to type in BIG letters. For example:
BOO!
However in general, it's like just polite to type at a normal font level. Also it is extremely polite to NOT stretch the page horizontally-- why? Because it's incredibly hard to read when one does so, and it disturbs the entire forum's reading experience.
WHY DO SOME MEMBERS NOT POST? SHOULDN'T WE DELETE THE USELESS GITS?
Not everyone visits the forum daily, or even weekly so that's why some members don't post. As for the dead weight we seem to have around here? It's been suggested that we clear non-posting members but it's been decided to just leave the accounts there in case a member does decide to post. Besides having a few non-posting members isn't killing anyone, at least not that we know of and if anyone did die due to these causes 667 is not liable, at least according to our lawyers.
HOW DO I POST MY BIRTHDAY ON THE CALENDAR?
It is no longer necessary for birthdays to be entered into the calendar. The information box at the bottom of the main page will automatically display that it is your birthday, as long as your age is not hidden in your profile.

(Changes to the forum have made it necessary to amend this FAQ somewhat, and later to edit some of the amendments. I've also written up some posting guidelines for this section.)
FFeedback Posting Guidelines
-Do not use this section for complaints about people's profiles. If someone's profile offends you, contact them first. -Do not perpetuate arguments in this section by complaining about specific posts. Try to work things out with the member in question, first. If you're being persistently harassed, contact Tragedy or the moderator of the section that harassment takes place in. If someone's harassing you by PM's, you can put their name on your ignore list. -Do not complain about specific members without a valid reason(unless they are clearly breaking the rules or being consistently troublesome, and nothing is being done about it yet). -Do not advertise your website, Proboard, story, artwork, or imaginary fascist organization. (Feel free, however, to put links to your site or art/story thread in your profile.) -Do not chat off-topic. -Do not reply to threads that are blatant spam. Avoid replying to threads that are misplaced or redundant(and which I will likely lock or move) if you do not provide a link to the correct thread or section. -Do not post questions about A Series of Unfortunate Events. See the stickied threads in Burdensome Books, or search those sections, for information on those. -Do not post questions about things covered by the topics of other boards. Try searching those sections for information, doing a general Internet search on the topics you wish to know more about, or posting in the appropriate section to ask. -If a thread in this section appears to have vanished, check the Archives section for it. I generally archive threads after they've become obsolete(such as complaints about a problem we've fixed or applications for a moderator position that's since been filled.)
Karma Karma is a rating that other members give to you. Once an hour, you can modify someone's karma, using the "exalt"(increase), or "smite"(decrease) link in their profile. (Admins and Global Moderators can also modify karma as much as they like.) You can't tell who has modified your karma. Asking for people to exalt you is frowned upon.
Becoming a Moderator To become a moderator, you must fit the following criteria: -have at least 1000 posts(the Top 20 Posters list has been disabled since Proboards v4 came out in May 2005) -not have your own message board -be an active member in the section you wish to moderate -not have been banned -preferably, not have any strikes In special cases, some of these rules may be disregarded, and fulfilling them may not necessarily mean one is qualified to be a moderator. This matter is at Tragedy's discretion. Generally, there will be a thread made announcing the need for a new moderator when it arises. If you notice that a moderator position is vacant, though, you may ask Tragedy about taking it up, or make a thread about it in here if there isn't one already. The Saybox
In the Saybox, the miniature chat-room at the bottom of this page, anyone can use any name. However, Tragedy can check the IP's of saybox posters. Contact him if someone is impersonating you or otherwise misbehaving in the Saybox. As of now, we have removed the Saybox because it was causing an infestation of large pop-up ads, as well as repeated complaints about impersonation and rule-breaking therein. Birthdays To get your birthday put on the calendar, ask a G-Mod or Tragedy. However, note that if you choose "show age" in your profile, your birthday will show up in the birthday list at the bottom of our homepage on the appropriate day. Hence, the Proboards calendar is a bit obsolete.
Censored Words We have some words censored--a few inappropriate words and one hackneyed insult. The replacement terms were chosen partly for humor value. The word list is as follows(words split up by dashes aren't censored, of course): pe-nis = "headphones" va-gina = "dishwasher" or-gy = "daycare center" n00-b = "really cool member"
Advertising You may advertise your website(or a story/art thread posted here) in your profile, but please do not spam the boards with excessive advertisements for it. For further guidelines about site advertising, see the Wistful Web rules linked below, and the last few items of the Administrative Decrees. For further information and rules, some of the sections have posting guidelines. It is strongly recommended that you read these before posting in any of these sections. Burdensome Books rules and general series information Putrid Products Malignant Movie Wistful Web Fearsome Fiction Relentless RPGs Disturbing Discussion Ghastly Games Proboards Terms of Service(item 3 covers restrictions on posted content) For general information about Proboards, try the Help link or Proboards Support.
