************************************************************************************************************************
The kiss sweetest And touch so warm The smile kindest In this world so cold and strong
Esmé was huddled up close to the fireplace, staring through the grate at the dancing oranges and yellows. At her feet was the latest edition of The Daily Punctilio, which proclaimed her infidel secret: “STYLISH WOMAN CHEATS ON BILLIONAIRE HUSBAND WITH VILLAINOUS BOYFRIEND”.
“Darling,” a voice sounded from the doorway of the parlor just then. “I’ve brought you some tea.”
Esmé wiped the tears from her eyes and then lifted her head to see Jerome. She smiled tensely, and the sides of her mouth twitched slightly from the effort.
So close to the flame Burning brightly It won't fade away And leave us lonely
Jerome came into the parlor and sat down on the carpet beside his wife. He offered her the cup of tea he was holding, and frowned when she didn’t look up at him. Setting the cup aside on the end table, he laid a gentle hand on her shoulder.
“Are you alright?” Jerome asked.
Esmé shook her head and sniffled. “No,” she replied sadly. “Everyone hates me.”
The arms safest And words all good The faith deepest In this world so cold and cruel
Without a word, Jerome put his arms around Esmé and kissed her on the cheek. “I don’t,” he said, slowly lacing one arm around her waist and resting his hand on the noticeable curve of her stomach.
Esmé lay back and rested her head against her husband’s broad chest. She covered his hand with both of hers and pressed his a little more firmly against her belly. She liked the feeling of his hand there, that warm feeling of tenderness and protection it gave to both her and her unborn child.
“I love you,” Esmé said, and closed her eyes.
So close to the flame Burning brightly It won't fade away And leave us lonely
“I love you, too, sweetheart,” Jerome said, and kissed Esmé on top of her head.
The End

I can't listen to the song this minute, because YouTube is blocked at my school. But, yeah, brilliant as always.

*laughs* Yes, it does! That comment made me laugh a lot. ;D Esme would tease Jerome by calling him Mr. Potatohead and he would cry. I dunno. Sorry, I'm in a silly mood right now. And I'm glad you loved the songfic. *hugs*

Aww! Sorry, I just had this vision of Jerome crying over being called Mr Potatohead. That would be just the funniest thing ever.

It would. Jerome would just be sitting there in front of Esme sobbing and say something like "You really think my head is shaped like a potato?!" ;D *EDIT* This is really, really embarrassing, but I'm going to say it anyway. When I was a little kid I had a Mr. Potatohead and wore the glasses when I went to the grocery store with my mom.

Jerome would just be sitting there in front of Esme sobbing and say something like "You really think my head is shaped like a potato?!" So many comic possibilities And I was obsessed with a cat food tin when I was little Wearing the glasses from Mr Potatohead is just cute

I'll let you know if I think of anymore comical Jerome incidents, if you want. A cat food tin? Did you wear it on your head? I brought up the Mr. Potatohead glasses incident to my mom at dinner the other night, and we had a good laugh. She said that when I wore them, they were so close together that they made me look cross-eyed.

No I just carried it around everywhere and cried if someone took it away I used to show it to everyone. My Grandad filed the edges so I couldn't hurt myself on it in any way. Grandad = Jerome That's so sweet! I think everyone is embarrassingw hen they're little. I'm actually nearly finsihed with a really stupid story about Jerome and Mr Potato Head. I'll post it later.

Aww, Jenny and her cat food can! I hope the "aww" doesn't annoy you; I just think that's a really cute story. I had a little stuffed dog like that that I used to carry around with me from the time I was about 5 and still have him to this day. And your Grandad sounds just like Jerome. I can't wait to read your Jerome and Mr. Potato Head story. I got so excited when you mentioned it and know it will be smashing. ;D
