What did you like or dislike about the trailer? Nice sets, lovely sets. The sort of place I'd like to live. Olaf's house had a cool Addams Family lok. Sunny. She's so darn cute! However, her teeth could have been more prominent. Klaus. For Thalia's sake, he should be wearing glasses! This isn't too big of an issue now, but will mess up the (hypothetical) movie of book the fourth. Jim Carrey's behavior near the end. That laugh was not Olaf-y at all. It bothers me. I have much to be bothered about at this moment.

Yeah, Jim Carrey just did not seem mean enough at all

Sigh. This is going to get very old before December comes around, I can tell. -Violet's hair is in braids on one side only. Let me assure you that she can still tie it up, and will. OlafsAssociate's insider passed that information along last week. -As for Sunny, you try getting an infant to cooperate in a film, let alone be a major character. It's live action not a cartoon, and compromises have to be made. -Jim Carrey is not going to wreck the film. He is only doing what the script tells him to, so blame that if you feel the need to point fingers.

I agree that Violet's hairstyle is wrong. No one has yet mentioned Violet's dress, which looks nothing like the illustrations. It's a sort of gothic-looking dress, the kind of thing I'd buy if only I had more money. Stylish, but inaccurate. Also, Klaus is missing his cute little bow tie. There is a scene where he's wearing glasses, in the trailer, but it's hard to see.

And I know Violet only has braids on one side, but why would you put braids on half of your head and tie up the other half?! I guess I wasn't thinking when I said that about Sunny.

Violet's hair is only braided on one side? I noticed the braids but didn't notice that. Maybe she has to undo the braids for some reason related to the Marvelous Marriage play. Anyway, you can put little braids in your hair, and have a ribbon as well. I do my hair like that sometimes. Speaking of the play, I saw a scene with an outdoor stage, and Olaf was jumping across it. Another scene showed Violet in a wedding gown, alone onstage. Wasn't the play supposed to be in an indoor theater?

Violet's hair is only braided on one side? I noticed the braids but didn't notice that. My monitor is pretty bright, and in the promotional photo of Olaf holding Violet and Klaus, you can see her hair spilling onto her left shoulder. If you can't see it, turn the brightness on your monitor way up or run it through Photoshop.

jim carrey is gonna be a great olaf. he reads his lines, and does the best he can. olaf is a hard character to play, and not many could even pull of the look of the count, but in the trailer, jim does it.
sure its not gonna be perfect, but we dont even know exactly how olaf acts. we dont know how he laughs besides "maniacally". jim is just playing olaf as his interpretation of the character (he has read all the books btw, for the role).
if u really think about it, the books arent much without the writing of daniel handler. without his unique and humorous way of telling the story, it wouldnt be near as good or interesting as it is.
i think the movie might be pretty good, but you have to remember, changing a book to a movie is a difficult task, especially something like asoue, because (although the story is great) the writing style is one of the main draws of the books.

Isn't Violet supposed to be taller than Klaus? The trailor made it seem like Klaus was the eldest Baudelaire...
Sunny was cute, but I still would have liked to see her as Brett Helquist saw her.
I remember for a split second when they showed Klaus with a helmet on, it looked like he had glasses.

What bearing does it have on the story? Don't jump to too many conclusions from the TV spot...there's simply not enough to draw from. -How would you suggest Brett's version of Sunny be done in live action? Infants are notoriously bad at taking direction. About the only chance you'll ever have of seeing it would be if they do an ASOUE cartoon. -Yes, Klaus is wearing glasses in that shot with the headgear.

it would be pretty hard for them to get a 14 year old girl who's taller than a 12 year old boy

Yes, I use this name everywhere. Isadora23, I think you should check out the Lemony Discussion Board today. We're having a VFDRPG. About Violet and Klaus: I agree that most 14-year old girls aren't much taller than 12 -year old boys. It's just that Violet looks taller in the illustrations, and Snicket purists want the characters to look like their descriptions/pictures. The white-haired woman in the trailer, I think she 's Josephine. If so, that's the only scene in the trailer that' s not from the Bad Beginning.

If so, that's the only scene in the trailer that' s not from the Bad Beginning. While I sympathize with the purists, I just have to point out again that is has no bearing on the story. It not like they changed the gender of the kids or made Sunny a lovable terrier or something. The main problem is that Brett's art is much, much too stylized to work as a live action film...some of it would look silly if made into real costumes, and some elements would be very difficult to cast or simply impossible to visualize without computer graphic assistance. Visually, I believe they are remaining faithful to the spirit of the books, with the possible exception of Klaus's very bland outfit. Time will tell if the script itself can maintain the spirit as well. Snicket purists will just have to accept that this film isn't being made for them, and make their choices accordingly. Either go along with their take on it, or boycott the film.
