This movie is still going to be good, but come on. Everytime you read one of the books after you see the movie, your gonna picture what they look like from the movie. Thats happened to me with Harry Potter. Im still gonna see the movie, but itll still ruin the books a little.
what do you think?

By now one of the few thing I have to complain about is Stephano. They totally ruined him, I think that the books' Stephano was better, we'll have to wait and see the movie version of him. Also, I have the feeling that they will ruin some of the troupe members.

I never got the movie image of the HP characters in my head, which was releaving. I did not see Snape with a deep voice and a slightly pudgy (for Snape) face, and I did not see Hermione as a brat concerned about how her hair looks from the back... thankfully.
If you just try to distance them from eachother completely, maybe you won't be left with a scarring impression.
I mean, don't the sets just look amazing?

the only person who isnt really complaining is our dearest neggie. thanks, neggie, for being kinda positive and stuff.
I am very excited about this movie. I cant wait for it.
You people obviously arent looking at the reality of teh troupe. They are a bumbling bunch of fools who disrespect and abuse children for no purpose but a little respect from their smelly boss. They are outlandish and that is the point. the movie people will not ruin the troupe. Im told the troupe is actually as they shoudl be.
Please people, stop complaining about the movie. Its sickening. Havent you yet been convinced that this will be a good movie? Stop being a slave to detail and open your monds up a bit, please.

Here follows my opinion: The Harry Potter movies did detract from the fun of the books, but it wasn't entirely the movies that did so. What really turned me away from Harry Potter was the excessive merchandising. Now that sucked the fun and novelty out of the books like a metaphorical leech (not, however, a Lachrymose Leech). I pray that the same fate shall not befall Lemony's works, but so far things look good. The movie's sets are so lovely.

Yes, I do have visions of Snape as the only one besides Dumbledore in my characters... Otherwise, I have my own visions of them.

Please people, stop complaining about the movie. Its sickening. Havent you yet been convinced that this will be a good movie? Stop being a slave to detail and open your monds up a bit, please. How about you don't put people down for saying what they think in a thread that is, expressly, about people saying what they think? I've opened up my mind plenty to this, and I still don't like it. I'm fine with the Baudelaires not looking like Helquist's illustrations. That's okay by me. I'm not fine with Jim Carrey using Count Olaf as a vehicle with which to make love to the camera constantly and get his name in big letters on the marquee. I see some nice sets, although they spent too much money on them and they're all soundstages and look incredibly fake. Even Daniel freakin' Handler said something to the effect of that. I see Jude Law as Lemony Snicket, which is of course fantabulous. I also saw them whoring out Jim Carrey many more times than he's actually worth, and I saw some particularly nauseating pseudo-deep internal monologuing, them putting in stuff that wasn't in the book and looks horrible (Olaf getting hit by a train wtf), etc. etc. etc. There will always be naysayers, buddy, and besides, nobody's going around saying "gosh, OlafsAssociate, could you be a little less cheerful?" Sure it irritates you, so why not just ignore it? We appreciate your enthusiasm, but as hard as it is to believe, some people don't think this movie will rock! Including me! I think it actually will have good points and bad points, and the former outweighs the latter, but the latter are placed on such important aspects of the film as to create some kind of bizarro acupuncture effect. Yes. However, they are also totally awesome, as a side effect of their being villainous. If they tone down anything about any of the villains I'll get mad--the violence, the pedophilia, any of it--because that's what makes them great villains. And great in general. Also it'd help if they made them look more like their MM portrait counterparts (only Flacutono really, everyone else looks fine). Also, backing up Dark's complaint about Stephano. He LOOKS LIKE HE HAS DOWNS SYNDROME.

He LOOKS LIKE HE HAS DOWNS SYNDROME. I second that remark. Stephano looks quite wrong. I was also rather dissapointed that the two ladies in that one movie picture had neither white faces or gravity-mockingly elaborate brightly colored hair. The bald guy looks good, though quite unlike the illustrations. He's got a goatee! Goatees are all very well and good, but...never mind, I'll go rant silently now.

Okay, okay, I came ot my senses. Maybe Im beinga bit thick-headed myself. People are entitled to their opinions, and if I dont like it, I might as well just let them speak. Sorry, people. Sometimes, I just speak (or type in this case) without thinking and tend to run my mouth over and over again.
But, like I said, from what Im told, the troupe couldnt be better. And keep in mind that the Marvelous Marriage picture was of them in thier "fancy outfits" (aside from hooky and the bald man) , and nothing more. So you can expect them to be wearing different stuff fro the play that will relate to the TMM picture more *wink wink* trust the guy with insiders, remember.

Right. I AM actually concerned about Jim Carrey, but I do want to hold my opinions until I've actually seen it. For now, I'll anticipate, and if things turn out badly, I'll go on a nice, justified rant. But keep in mind we have very little to base our opinions on so far... we have, what, 3 trailers and some set pictures?
Also, Tocuna, nice point about the merchandising. I sincerely hope this doesn't happen too much with Lemony Snicket, but on the other hand, as a Canadian, I find it hard to get the merchandise they already have, so it may be nice for some things to be more accessible. However, I don't want ASOUE toothpaste or candy or stickers with cheesy slogans (ie: "I Am The Potions Master (POTIONS MASTER IS COPYRIGHT WARNER BROTHERS!!!!!!!!!!)")
