"Jimmy! JIMMY!!!!!!" shouted Jacques as he came upon Jim Caliban who was Josephine’s brother’s cousin. "What is it, buddy? What do you need my friend?" "I need that bathyscaphe to get to Dewey Denouement's underwater catalog in the Hotel Denouement. Can I borrow it or can you lend it to me?" "Of course I can, Jacques. I'll see if I have any more bathyscaphes in my hiding place at Curdled Cave." And so Jim Caliban lead Jacques Snicket to Curdled Cave.

(I'm currently writing a story with Jacques and Esme as well as Kit and Olaf AND Lemony and Bea.....it's not great...a work in process it's called "The Romance of the Sugar Bowl" I hope to get on that soon...)
Esme said nothing as she ate quietly. Watching them talk she offered few opinions and it seemed that she was watching from the outside.

Beatrice stood. "I'll just be a minute, I need to use the restroom." she said. "Don't miss me too much!"
A few minutes later as she walked out of the ladies' room she gasped. Olaf had just hit Lemony, and he was bleeding on the floor.

(Ooooh! Drama! I"ll let Jenny give the reasons why in her oh so awesome Count Olaf. You could so anything with it! You could make it Jacsme if you wished it. Lucky you, Jenny!)
Esme just gaped. The moment had just passed so quickly. One minute everything was peaceful and then, as always a firey truth was revealed. Don't shoot the messenger would be a good phrase to describe what happened to Lemony. The informer got hit.

"Lemony!" Beatrice cried. She ran over to his side. He was pale and trembling. She stared up at Olaf with dark, tear filled eyes as if expecting an explanation.

(Ah, yes. I see what you mean, Firefly.. Sorry everyone, I've been uber-busy. I am going to make it Jacquesmé, Hanna. Mainly because I can't think of anything else. And I have like no time. Please carry on and elaborate for me? I'll be back soon.)
Idiot.
It was Lemony's own fault he got hit, at least in Olaf's eyes. For one thing, Lemony shouldn't have been messing around with the other side. And for another, whatever Esmé might be doing when she wasn't with him, Lemony had no right to tell him anything about it.
Unable to decide who he was angriest at, Olaf sat down again, summoning Jack to get him another glass of wine.

How dare Lemony speak of that. It was history. Esme was barley dating Olaf at the time. Okay that wasn't entirely true. It was a few months ago now. "You swore you wouldn't tell!" Esme said to Lemony who was pulling himself back up to the table.
"Olaf it was so long ago-" she was cut off by Olaf's hand which silenced her by simply being raised.

(I loved the 'was BARELY dating Olaf at the time'. We sort of need a Lemony. I'll offer to take it and be obsessive about it if no one else wants to.)
'Typical,' Olaf muttered, shaking his head. 'We were having a perfectly nice evening until you turned up, Snicket.'
Lemony pulled himself back up onto the table, wiping away a thin trail of blood that ran down from a corner of his mouth to his neck and shrugging off Beatrice's helping hand. The two men faced each other, Olaf still angry and Lemony still convinced that he was correct to reveal this.
It was ridiculous, in Lemony's eyes, to play happy families when you were as dysfunctional as Esmé and Olaf-- both of which had romantic ties to his siblings and both of which were practically traitors in the eyes of V.F.D.
'Kit--' he started to say, but again Olaf interrupted.
'--Has nothing to do with anything!' he said loudly, frightening away Jack who nearly dropped his glass of wine. When Olaf said nothing he quickly stole away the plates-- Olaf who was finished and Esmé who wouldn't finish among all this drama-- and left Olaf's glass in front of him.
'This is nothing like me and Kit!' he announced, not sure where the evidence for this actually was. In fact, this was actually a lot like him and Kit. A secret affair, and then an upset partner, two people who would never look at each other the same way again,a nd all surrounding Lemony.... actually it was rather a lot like it, but that thought only made him angrier.
He foolishly added something he shouldn't have, something very idiotic for his current position and something to spark all sorts of arguments around the table. He faced Esmé.
'And you shouldn't be cheating on me!'

Jacques. Beatrice thought. "Esme and Jacques aren't together anymore. They haven't been for a very long time. Lemony and I will leave, and we're both sorry for the trouble we've caused. I'll see you at rehearsal tomorrow Esme." Beatrice rose and helped Lemony to his feet. He wiped blood from his face and tried to explain what had happened.

"It was so long ago and we'd been dating for a month....maybe two. But why should I bow my head and be all sorry you were with Kit?" Esme said as if she didn't know he had been with Kit.
The different with Jacques and her was that only they knew about it until the end, where Kit, Esme and Beatrice were the best of friends and secrets often slipped. Apparently Jacques had told his brother. Now as the other two left Esme and Olaf could only look at each other and try to blame each other when they were guilty of the same thing.

(Oh yeah, and the fic sounds good, Hanna.)
Olaf knew it was probably time to hold up his hands as he watched Beatrice and Lemony leave, Beatrice supporting Lemony who was still a little dizzy and disorientated.
'Alright, let's not be ridiculous,' he said, trying to work his way out of The Kit Conversation. 'All I'm saying is you should have told me. And what in the world did you see in Jacques?' Olaf asked finally. It was still bothering him. He could fool around all he liked, but Esmé, as far as he was concerned, was his and that was all.

"Jacques is sweet. Maybe for once in my life I would like to be with someone who brings flowers and does sweet things. Gentle things. I realized how boring it was quickly though. I'm with you now." Translation: Jacques ended it and broke my heart and now I've convinced myself otherwise so that I can learn to like this lie that I live in.
Esme sensed his feelings that she had done wrong be he hadn't and stuck to her guns. She wasn't backing down. ow more playing angel like she used to.
(I wanna play angel!)

Olaf pulled a face and she pretended to laugh at it, but for that reason it didn't amuse him.
She wasn't sounding so convincing. It sounded to him like if she had half a chance she'd be back with Jacques (OMG that rhymes!). But he supposed he couldn't be one to talk.
Jack appeared by the side of the table bearing the bill. He dropped it on the table and scurried away, still expecting an explosion from Olaf.
Angry and trying to subtely show it, Olaf passed the bill.

((Tries to hold back from just having makeup sex....I have the strength! Sure....))
Esme looked at the bill and happily got out her wallet and paid it in cash. she also left Jack a big tip. She stood and turned to the door. "Coming Ollie?" she asked, purposely using his least favorite nickname. she wore a large grin and as he join her to head to the door she held his hand.

(Well done Hanna...But come to think of it that would probably stop me obsessively posting for a while....)
He sighed. Her ever ineffective defence mechanism was acting perfectly happy as if everything was fine.
He had learnt that in these situations it was probably best to just take her hand and give in for a little while until it all spilled out later. So he did.
They left smiling and waving goodbye to Jack, who was very puzzled at the events that had just occured. As soon as they got to the car, Olaf became colder.
'I'd find Jacques if I had a clue where to look,' Olaf stated quietly. 'And then maybe I wouldn't have to settle for your tampered with side of things.'
