Today I was at the bookstore (you might've read this on TheSnicketSource.com's forum and IMDb's ASoUE board). I was going through Lemony Snicket's (Daniel Handler) autobiography. Well, I was at a disguise part. There it showed all of the stages of disguising ones appearance. AND, right above the pictures (of disguises) there it was, "The World is Quiet Here." What that may mean is.... Everybody in V.F.D. may be in disguise. Meaning it's quiet because nobody is who they really are, their all in disguise. Which means Olaf, Esme, Hook-Handed Man, Bald Man, ect. may all be part of V.F.D. Just in disguise! All of that brings me back to my meain theory; Klaus, Violet, Sunny, Duncan, Quigley, and Isadora are being trained without knowing it. By the MANY faces of V.F.D. So, Olaf and all of the 'supposedly' bad guys are in V.F.D.

weve all though about the Bauds being in training, but weve never really discussed everyone being in disguise. That pretty interesting. Well done, newbie ;D

Wow-I never thought about the 'quiet' bit meaning that they were in disguise. They're keeping quiet about who they really are-I think that works better then the saying of no more fire alarms, screaming etc, therefore proving them a fire department.
But suppose they want to stay anonymous after saving people or whatever-after all, they're volunteers. Hm..*goes off into thinking mode*

I've always interpreted "The World is Quiet Here" to reflect VFD's ideal world, one free of noisy things like fires, screams for help, schisms, etc. It could also be a reference to the general secrecy of the whole club, which connects to the disguises and codes. Some say it's a reference to the VFD tradition of meeting in libraries, which are ideally quiet. However, maybe it has different meanings for every member. That's the sort of ambiguity Mr. Snicket likes.

Maybe it's their saying because it fits in with so many VFD things.

Yeah. It really fits into every V.F.D category. That's an interesting theory, ya know...

So in training 6 people they think it's alright to kill, steal, and burn things to teach the children not to do any of those things? Or are the people Olaf killled not really dead and ASOUE just turned into an episode of Days? It's pointless to go through all that just to train them.

As I said before, V.F.D. must be an evil crazy psyco group, to make the Baudelaires indure all they have.

Certainly. I believe that VFD is training the Baudelaires, and Olaf is a hindrance, not a helper. It would be rather lame to learn, in the end, that all the misfortune was merely a test and a training exercise. However, I'm hoping that the Baudelaires will join VFD in the end.
