I think they shouldn't even give a care. Just leave it the way it is! Just vbecause ONE parent suied and LOST doesn't mean that EVERYONE else can't say it just because that guy didn't want his daughter to say or even HEAR it! Geez. And they might change the dollar bill because it syas "In God We Trust". They might change the Pledge of Allegiance to "One natition. Under FIRE"

Quite frankly I don't give a damn. I never say it at my school, I don't think it's patriotic, and as soon as I go to college I'll never say. So, what's the point?

*shrug* I just don't say it. Under God, that means. For osme reason, we always have to say the pledge. but i don't say under god. but i'll let the religious folk say it, i don't see why the fuss.

Uh, you do know why "Under God" is even in there, right? To weed out Communists during the fifties, become Communists were atheist? When it was first written it didn't even include any religious references in it, probably because we have a thing called separation of church and state.
Let people still say it if they want to, but it's LONG overdue for a restoration to its original wording. I'm not religious, and I know people can go "WELL YOU DON'T HAVE TO SAY IT EITHER, LEAVE US RELIGIOUS TYPES ALONE," but it represents a contradiction that shouldn't even be in something related to swearing an oath to our nation every day of the year. Take it out, and it will be like a blank slate that people can, if they wish to, impress their own religious beliefs upon. They can say "under God" or "under Allah" or "under _____" and nobody will have a problem with it, because it's not "official" like "under God" is.

To many people have been brain washed.... from a website: separation of church and state (n) An important part of the Constitution that isn't literally written in said document. It's implied, under the reasoning that since we have freedom of religion, any leaning on the government's part toward any one religion would force everyone to only be a part of that religion, and violate their constitutional rights.

My history teacher(a flaming liberal who is TEH R0X0RZ) told us that no school rule requires us to say it, so unless the teacher(a different one) tells me to stand up and say the pledge, I just sit there quietly. I agree that we shouldn't have a religious reference in the pledge. (Personally, I like to say "One nation, many gods", when I say it at all. No one has noticed--yet). Some have suggested changing the pledge to "one nation, indivisible, with liberty, equality, and justice for all". This seems like the best change to me, but of course someone's likely to object--someone objects to everything.

I was going to rely to all this...then I realized I already have. Those who do not learn from Uncle Kobo's posts are doomed to repeat themselves!.
Short version, the history of the pledge can be found here: history.vineyard.net/pledge.htm
The Pledge should be reverted back to it's initial form of: I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all
It would be easier for our severly undereducated children to learn.
Besides, Revisions only get you in trouble...ask Mary Cheney...who is a LESBIAN! [/end additional unneeded outing of homosexual vice-daughter] Ps. In God we trust on the dollar bill is an allusion that our God is the Almighty Dollar...Think on that.
