Chapter Thirteen
Disappointment[/u]
Georgina Orwell hastily checked the small mirror in her locker, making sure her hair and makeup were fixed to perfection. She smiled, making sure there was nothing in her teeth, and checked her nostrils, as well.
Almost as quick as she opened the locker she shut it again, and turned in immediate coolness to meet Geraldine Julienne, who stopped quickly.
"Hey there, Georgina," said Geraldine with a smile, "how are you?"
"Pretty good Ms. Julienne," said Georgina happily. "What class are you going to next?"
"I have first lunch," said Geraldine with a shrug.
"Lucky," said Georgina, "I have third. I've heard the food is spectacular in first."
Geraldine shrugged in modesty. "It's not too great," she said. She couldn't help but give a teasing wink. Unbeknownst to her, Georgina nearly fainted when she saw it.
"Well," said Georgina, smiling still, "I've been meaning to ask you, what do you think of the guys here at Prufrock?"
Geraldine shrugged. "They're okay," she said, "but there's one who's got my eye in particular."
Georgina's hopes faded, slightly. But she didn't dare show it. "Who?" she said, completely masking her thoughts from her tone. "I may be able to introduce you two!"
"Oh, stop it," said Geraldine, laughing slightly. "It's just a simple crush, I guess. I only have him in Journalism 3 anyways, so I hardly see him."
"Aw, you can tell me, I won't tell anyone," said Georgina in what she feared was a too excited tone.
"Well, you can't tell," said Geraldine, "but it's Frank Denouement's brother."
Georgina was slightly taken aback. "Dewey Denouement?"
"No," said Geraldine, "Ernest. He's so cute, don't you think? They all look just alike, I mean, but there's something about Ernest that just...I don't know, he's just more attractive than the others. Don't you think?"
Georgina shrugged. "Sure," she said. "Don't want to be late to lunch, do you Geraldine?"
***"Josephine, do you have a moment?"
Josephine turned quickly to see Victoria Bass, a little shaky and pale, speaking to her. This was odd - the two had almost never spoken to one another, and the fact that their first contact was made on the way out of Anagram Symbolism was even weirder.
"Sure, Victoria," Josephine said, hoping she kept the puzzled tone out of her voice.
"I know this may seem awkward," Victoria said, stopping just outside the door to the classroom. "I've heard rumors all over the Lady's Hall. You know, about...you and Isaac, the night after the Dance."
Josephine blushed, not trying to hide it. "Yeah," she mumbled slightly. "What about it?"
Victoria looked around slightly. "I don't know, Josephine, I'm so scared. Hubert and I, well, we sort of...did the same thing, you know. The night of the Dance."
Josephine nodded understandingly, but inside her stomach felt like regurgitating. "Oh," she said, a little confused, "congratulations, Victoria." She smiled.
Victoria shrugged. "I mean, it was good and all, but...well, there were two things wrong."
"What?"
"Well," Victoria said, "first of all, it wasn't nearly what I expected. It was...different, not good or bad, just different. And secondly, he - we, that is - didn't use a...we didn't use protection."
Josephine paled. "I see," she stammered after a moment's hesitation. "Do you think you're - "
"That's what I came to ask you, "said Victoria.
At that moment, Mr. Morrow walked by. "Ladies, get to where you need to be, please," he grumbled boredly.
Victoria suddenly seemed to come out of her trance, and immediately looked around as if she were in the wrong area.
"I, I'll talk to you later, Josephine," she said quickly, walking away. "Thanks."
Josephine's heart was stammering in a mixture of disgust, confusion, and chaos.
"No prob, Vicky," she said, and walked down the hall.
I had the wild urge to return and finish this, and here I am! Hope you enjoy! I'll be back for more tomorrow or possibly tonight.
