Would "Most Missing" be something like the member we most regret the absence of? Yes, I think that would kind of be it. I like Best Organiser, because we tend to have lots of things being organised. I think there are more organisers than artists for example, so there should be an award for that too. I think Most Missing would be a nice award for only this year, because there are many absences and it happens to have some connection to a Snicket book that was new in the last year, but I don't think it's a good idea to have it for every year.

Does this mean I'll have to go missing for a month or so if I want to have a Darkies award sweep?

I don't think that'll help you win all the other awards.

Suggestion now: There will be 3 or 4 polls.
1. "If we drop one/some of last year's categories, which one(s) should it be?" The options will be all the 13 categories, plus maybe an extra option for "Either Best Story or Best Writer", because some people have already said that they think we only need one of these 2. This poll would be made in 5 hours if people say this suggestion is okay (or just don't say it's terrible), and closed on Thursday Morning (Europe time).
2. "If we include a new category, which one should it be?" This poll would be made on Monday, because we need suggestions first, and also closed on Thursday Morning. A thread for suggestions would be made in 5 hours.
3. "Which of these categories should we have?" The options will be the categories with the most votes from poll 1 and poll 2 (i.e. the most popular new suggestions and the least popular old categories). This poll would be made on Thursday and closed on Saturday.
4. Not necessarily in a poll, we somehow would decide if we want just the 13 categories decided in the first 3 polls, or some special category. That has to happen before the end of Monday (the 21st of course)

1. I think Best Organiser is important; it helps us to honour people who do really significant things for 667. Last year's winner was Linda, for the anniversary; that was an amazing achievement, and I don't think there was any other category it would have been possible to honour her for it in.
2. There are always people we miss, but I think the demand for an award arises out of rather special circumstances that exist this year, and in future years it might not be so relevant. I can see us puzzling over it next year, and saying 'We give people an award for not being here? How odd!'. (I was actually thinking of giving some awards myself if there were no Darkies this year, and I was planning a special award for Most Absent, showing that great minds think alike. But I had a particular person in mind.) The same is true of Best Darkie Presentation - it was suggested after last year's ceremony because there were a lot of striking speeches that year; this may not always be true.
3. I think on the whole it's good to keep the categories the same from year to year, to allow comparisons to be made. We've dropped two recently, Most Improved and Most Consistent/Most Active, which were rather unmemorable and sounded a bit moralistic, but I don't think excessive changes are a good idea.
4. Anka: Your plan is good, but I think it might be a good idea to decide first, before the polls, if there are going to be special awards (not necessarily which they would be), since people's votes on what to have as a permanent award might be different depending on whether they knew there would be special awards.
5. There was talk last year of a set of alternative awards - the Malarkies - but nothing came of it. Having such an event might overcome some of these problems. Of course it looks as if there will be an alternative set this year, so if we could prevail on Bandit to institute an award for Most Missing....
6. If we amalgamate Best Story and Best Writer, which would it be - would the award go to a story or a writer?
7. Bandit: I think you are unlikely to win Best New Member or Best Pairing.

I agree with the absentness stuff. And I would like to have a special award for the best award presentation, where the winner is chosen directly after the presentation of the awards by members who didn't present an award, and who can also just decide to give it to nobody if there is nothing that they find special. 3. I think the cagories are fine as they are, but we should give new ideas a chance. And also I still don't really like the Most Notorious award, because many people seem to not really know what it means, and I admit I am one of these people. 4. Okay, that's a good idea. Maybe we should just collect suggestions for special awards separately from awards, and also an extra poll for that (including the option "No special award") Another suggestion would be to drop one category and replace it by the category "Special Award" which is a different award every year. Like a free space for a new category that is always only supposed to be there for one year. So we wouldn't have to think of which categories to drop every year, because there would be a space for a new one anyway. 6. I think it should be something between those two. The award could be called "Best Writer", but nominations could only be made with reference to at least one story.

4. I was about to suggest the special award thing myself.
6. I think Best Story is better to just keep and get rid of Best Writer

Forget my earlier suggestion and look at the poll here. It will only be open for about 17 hours, but it doesn't necessarily have to be there to make a decision, only to see what people want.

That's really complicated because there would be so manny possibilities. With Best Pairing there is already a chaos of nominations every time, because so many combinations are possible.

Well you can finally do those joke/alterative awards and include that there and sort out the nomination chaos yourself. (Maybe that's a motivation to actually do that, because that would be fun ) Or ask Bandit if he will include it in whatever he's doing. Also I think the result of the poll here is quite clear and there have been enough voters (and some who haven't voted have been online, so they seem to not have voted on purpose and not because they haven't been online while it was open), so we can just take that option
