lol, while john oliver managed to use caveats like 'sometimes' and 'might' and stuff that didnt seem to register to you bc what he was describing was not the norm. he was talking about a particular school with the decoy classes, and there are many college athletes that are there to put themselves through school and theres always a segment that recognizes that during tournaments/march madness.
again, they don't get *nothing* and they arent entitled to anything anyway. this is a discussion bc college basketball makes a lot of money, but many student athletes put themselves through a lot in college and face the same setbacks if they get hurt( ie, losing scholarships) and theres not really even a chance that they'll go on to play professionally and make millions. athletics in college is a huge time commitment and not all athletes can balance sports and school but thats what you agree to do/try when you accept a spot on the team and a scholarship.

i get the issue and im a giant socialist or whatever who generally hates the rich getting richer, but a lot of arguments people use are bs. i have no physical prowess but i lived with athletes during most of my college career and saying people should pay basketball/football dudes when other athletes work just as hard, dedicate a lot of their time too and still make good grades is ridic.

The whole point is that college athletes shouldn't have to agree to treating college sports the same as, say, high school sports, because it's a genuine industry that others are making billions from.
