I just realized that on September 11, 2001 Peppermince was not yet born. I know some of you younger members were pretty young then, but the thought that are people that exist that have no recollection of that day, period, is a strange one. I have no recollection of that. I remember one time at school in my last year there were a shocking number of people who had never even heard of that. That makes even your unknowledge of things pale in comparison!

9/11 is one of my first memories, although i can buy that people in other countries would be easier sheltered from it. my grandpa was near the twin towers at the time, he is a chauffeur in Manhattan and he had to get a new rear windshield because it was hit by a piece of debris. it was a very distressing day in my house even for a 3 year old

I remember 9/11 and I remember wondering why everyone except me cared about it so much and wondering even more why I cared about it so little. But I also remember that "America" was like a synonym for "very very very very far far far away" for me, so maybe that's mostly the reason.

I was nearly 9, and about a year earlier we visited NYC for about a month or so. I wasn't as blown away by the incident as the adults either, but it was crazy to see this world famous American city being so helpless in the face of an attack like that.

I was 12 and had just started junior high about two weeks prior, so it's sort of a way to separate my childhood and teenagerhood neatly into before and after; it was also the first time I'd really paid attention to the news so I became a lot more societally aware afterwards.
