I am going in like 3 hours to see this and I know I'm going to want to talk about it afterwards. Please, for the sake of those who haven't seen it yet, keep all spoilers under a spoiler tag.

Oh my god this movie is fantastic. I highly recommend it. You know that successful Star Wars formula? Bad Sith, big laser, good CGI, funny one liners, and sadness? BAM.

Yes, but the ending was not just formulaic, it was too similar to A New Hope (another death star, but bigger). Having said that, the first half was on par with the old trilogy's movies in my opinion. Using actual puppets/practical effects and real sets (mixed mostly seamlessly with CGI); archetypical but highly involving storyline/plot twists; involving characters (I loved seeing storm troopers showing emotions); and of course, a fantastic music score by John Williams.
I loved all of the actors' performances as well. Luckily there were no Ewok-like creatures or Jar Jar Binks-like comic relief. The bits of comic relief they had I found actually funny and non-intrusive. The light saber fights were also much better than in Eps 1-3, where they seemed too perfectly choreographed to the point of looking silly. Here they were more like swords, seeming to have some weight at last, and the movements seemed unpredictable.
The only thing I hope they improve in the next films is that they'll try to go into new directions in terms of story arc, while continuing to stay true to the fantasy world. I wouldn't want to see them just rehashing the old trilogy.

SPOILERS AHEAD All too true. The comedy in action movies these days has mostly drifted towards little bits of wit from characters rather than dedicating an entire person to comic relief, and this is no exception. Another thing I thought off was that the villain was kind of a compressed Vader. Vader took 3 movies to exist, command an army towards destruction of the rebels, and be injured (we don't know if Ren dies) by the next Jedi. Kylo Ren managed all of those in a record 1 movie, which suggests that he's not done.

I'm glad it has. I'm all for casual witticisms, and it's very rare for anyone to write a pure comic relief-based character without sacrificing the character's believableness.

Yeah those characters are either annoying and beloved or annoying. These "Jar Jar is Sith Lord" rumors were jokes.

There's also Simon Pegg and Daniel Craig in it, but you can't see their faces (DC has actual dialogue though)
