It's called going stag, and it's acceptable for the less formal dances but I never knew anyone who went to prom without a date, the whole point of prom was having a date and fancy matching clothes. nobody has matching clothes, the girls usually have really individual beautiful dresses and the guys have identical turd suits

Here we have a prom party/dinner but just that. Families, teachers and close people pay an insane amount of money to go to that salsaty dinner, then the old people leave around 12 and the teenagers and young people stay and have a party 'til dawn. What we have as a stronger tradition on highschool graduation is a trip to a nice, snowy city full of parties in the south of the country called Bariloche. Everyone who's graduating pays another insane amount of money to go there during Winter and get drunk and do stupid salsa. I didn't do it, instead I went to Buenos Aires with my best friend hah. i love bariloche with all my heart <3

What actually happens to the people who don't get a partner, are they still allowed to go there then? And if they are, is that a thing that some people really do, or would that be weird if they did? the people who dont have a partner are publicly stoned

I went to prom (well, the local equivalent) in a very expensive suit, the first one I'd bought from new. It doesn't fit me very well, and now I regret buying it. I've only used it that once, as I prefer another one which I bought secondhand for basically no money, and which seems to be tailored to someone with a very similar figure to my own. I went with my friend's girlfriend as my date, while he went with her twin. It was an arrangement we'd settled on a few months earlier, while they were split up and the whole situation was in a bit of turmoil. By the time of the prom, though, they were back together, and I felt a bit awkward about coming between them, even though they both seemed happy enough with the situation. Also, my French teacher, a very jovial man originally from southern France, bought me a bottle of champagne because he was so happy with my written exam (I got 10, which translates to a B when you take it outside Denmark). In an attempt to grandiosely proclaim my intent to share with the whole French team, I apparently shook the bottle a little too vigorously, and ended up spilling almost half on the floor. In spite of all that, it was pretty fun.

I went to my prom equivalent thing, but I left early because I had a dancing competition on the next day for which I had to wake up at 4 in the morning (also the thing was one and a half hours away from where I live). That was good because I wasn't there for the part where everyone was drunk and everything was a chaos. If it had been like the American thing, I probably wouldn't have gone there because nobody would have gone there with me (and I wouldn't want to go there with anyone).
Also the dresses aren't that fancy here, or maybe they just weren't at my school because people had bought dresses for the christmas balls before, so it wasn't that special anymore. I think that's good, because then the dress can also be worn for other occasions later.

i bought my dress like a day or two before the prom because i wasn't sure i was going to go. my date was two friends i went to school with, which is the only way to go at an all girls school because if you bring a boy then you basically have to babysit him. lol i actually think anyone who had brought a guy to a dance before didnt at prom which is why i have a vivid memory of one of my friends being the only one with a guy and doing the exact same dance with him for every song while the rest of did whatever we wanted.

I didn't go to prom junior year because of seasonal allergies. I did go senior year stag. It was also the same day as State Solo and Ensemble, so I had to wake up at the asscrack of dawn to get on a 45 minute bus ride to the college we were performing at at 8 am. My dress was like $40 at Deb Shops(before it filed bankruptcy and became an online-only plus size clothing store).

i went to my prom, i'm glad i did, it was fun. i almost asked someone to be my date, but he said he wasn't interested in going so i didn't bother. instead my group of friends and i went together, we had fun dancing to 2009 music lmao. part of the reason i decided to go was because it was on the small cruise boat instead of in a hall. it was really nice because we were able to just hang out on the deck in the breeze and watch the sunset. i only went to one other high school dance and it was in the school gym, so having a cool location for prom saved it from being totally lame imo here's a pic of me there imgur.com/dlTQD44

I didn't go to my prom. I wasn't that interested and my really good school friends, who were a year ahead of me, had already graduated. Instead my best friend and I got together and had a movie night.
