Yeah, I think she is. She's a lot better than I expected when I started rereading Harry Potter some eight or nine months ago. She has a few formal mannerisms that I like to make note of while reading (if I recall correctly after not having read her books for a few months, she regularly writes entire paragraphs separated only by semicolons). Of course, with her being a professional author, I'm sure that's all intentional, it's just a fun thing to follow.

She's a decent writer who was incredibly lucky in life and who doesn't know when to stop.

I think she is a good writer. The Cormoran Strike books are brilliant, and The Casual Vacancy was also well-written, though not the sort of thing that excites me. The Harry Potter books aren't the greatest of literature, but are exciting works, and it annoys me, as a Snicket fan, when people pick holes in them. DH is, hands down, a better writer than Rowling, at the level of putting words together, and in my view a more interesting thinker too, but in matters of plot construction makes her look an absolute paragon of consistency.
Regarding 'doesn't know when to stop', as I understand it the HP material that is appearing now is either someone else's idea, or old notes that she is releasing as prizes.

but in matters of plot construction makes her look an absolute paragon of consistency I think DH has way better plot constructions than her, but I'll mention Ron speaking parseltongue and the tales of Beedle the Bard just for fun. Regarding 'doesn't know when to stop', as I understand it the HP material that is appearing now is either someone else's idea, or old notes that she is releasing as prizes. But she decides to let them do it, and it's her idea anyway (I'm talking about The Cursed Child and Fantastic Beasts). Also all the Pottermore concept and the gossiping she did after HP7 are bit prizes to me, only desperate and cheap demands of attention.

the majority of Harry Potter fans will gobble down new Harry Potter stuff no matter what, and they've been frothing at the mouth for new material since the day deathly hollows came out. I highly doubt Rowling made pottermore because she was worried about people not giving her attention.

I said "Who?" even though I know who she is, because that was the most lukewarm answer available. I don't think she's a bad author, not at all, but I never could get into the Harry Potter series. Obviously, she's incredibly intelligent because she knows how to milk her audience like nobody's business, but I never really felt any sort of immersion while reading her books. I think I read the first three or four, and gave up. They're not bad! I get why people like them, but I personally find them... Ehhh?
If we're comparing children's authors, I much prefer DH- Even if his narratives aren't as internally consistent, I found his themes far more endearing and long-lasting. (And, as Hermes said, he's more interesting.) Haven't read any of Rowling's adult fiction, but Handler's adult stuff is deliciously off-kilter and bizarre. Never got that vibe from Rowling.

I should note, for those unaware, that I don't really care what 667's opinion of Rowling is; I mainly made this as a response to what happened with another thread I made about an author on 667.

Nobody really cares about Teleram's opinion either (nothing personal Tony), but I am interested in your opinions of JKR, especially if you don't like her.

She's a cool writer, but I haven't read any of her work other than Harry Potter. I don't have much of interest to say on her as a novelist- if you're looking for in-depth criticism, then I suggest you take a look at this brilliant essay by Stephen Brown. Actually, everyone should read it.

Every time JK Rowling is discussed on 667 it's either lukewarm or negative, excepting some threads in the roleplaying forum. It's an area in which I utterly disagree, and frankly, experiment aside, this is becoming as tiresome as the implication/statement that she's attention seeking.
