Although, in regards to the sapient thing, I assume you’re referring to the idea that cats see us as ‘big cats’, not a separate species? No, I was referring to the whole "we own them as property, and sometimes neuter them for our convenience or sell their children away" thing. I feel like if cats really were sapient they'd see us as these incomprehensible, Cthulhu-like entities who sometimes bring them wondrous gifts and give them stable homes, yet at other, seemingly random times turn on them and commit unspeakable horrors. The day those sapient cats realize humans are no more or less intelligent than them, and do all those things simply because they don't care, and keep cats as slaves their whole lives — preventing from hunting or mating — because they think they're cute to have around… that is the day we'll see the urban version of Animal Farm. That's what.

Ohhhhhhhhhh right, OK, that does make more sense! Sorry for totally misunderstanding.
But, yeah, I’d still be on the cats’ side in that; that is, in terms of condemning the many unspeakably cruel things certain humans do out of convenience/monetary interest (overbreeding and declawing are two particularly horrific mistreatments which spring to mind). Obviously other humans do many kindnesses for cats (including preventing them from having kittens in some circumstances), but far too many people are certainly only interested in cats and other animals for their ‘cuteness’ and nothing more, although there is so so much more to them than that.
But hopefully none of this will be an issue at the party anyway because no one is planning to mistreat them in any way. 😊
Paddington’s going to be a very busy and happy bear with all the the parties he will be attending.
