additional question: at what age did you bitter-lovers start bittering the bitters? it seems to be the last-acquired taste. i assume coffee and tea, like alcohol, are originally sought out for their side effects, and the taste is only enjoyed later. what kind of tea with side effects are we talking about here? I started out with sugared grapefruit and continue to sugar some teas, but - while not my top favorite - I think I've always enjoyed peppermint tea without sugar. the effect of caffeine. duh.

I never sugar my tea because I use tea to help me sleep and because I drink herbal tea, which is naturally slightly sweeter than black or green.

I don't think anybody ever started drinking tea just for the caffeine, m8. now opium tea on the other hand...

well a cup of black tea has a lot of caffeine. not quite as much as coffee, but in terms of people using tea as a caffeine source, surely the numbers are similar to coffee drinkers. of course, i’ve never actually had any of this crap.

I don't feel like tea has a massively stimulating caffine affect. I can drink some before I go to sleep without a problem.
