I went to Border’s this morning to see if they had any Grim Grotto promotional items or The Catastrophic Card Game. I was so excited to find a cardboard stand-up display of Count Olaf! It was the picture of him from the Blank Book, about 4 feet tall. He was holding a sign promoting the Grim Grotto coming September 21. The best part was it had a motion sensor to make it talk to you! It had several different evil laughs and three sayings: - “Where did you get that book?”
- “Poor Baudelaires. You might as well give up.”
- “Not only am I intelligent, but I’m also very smart.”
I thought it was the greatest display I’ve ever seen, so I asked the manager if I could have it when they were done with it. He said NO!He said that they’ve had problems in the past with 2 people being promised 1 item, so now they don’t let you claim displays. I asked about after the book comes out. He said that they destroy the displays and throw them out! CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?! Now I am so depressed. It’s bad enough that Ican’t have it. But it will be destroyed and NO ONE can have it. What a waste! Has anyone else seen this display?

You should break into the store in the middle of the night and steal it. Or stalk the store to see when they are getting ready to throw it out, and take it from them.

I'll be at Borders on September 21 to buy my copy of TGG. I'll ask again. All they can do is say NO again, but it's worth a shot. (Maybe if I ask somebody other than the manager.)

Yeah, Border's is evil when it comes to promo merchandise. A few years ago I wanted this giant poster they had of my favorite band and they said no, they throw them out. But that Olaf one sounds great. I'll have to stop by and see it.

I'm going to have to see if my local Borders has one. And check on Ebay, and see if my parents will let me get one.

*Gasp* I WANT!!! Though, I doubt my Borders has one. And even if they did, they'd make me pay like a gazillion dollars for it. My Borders is evil and money-hungry, so it kinda makes sense if they kept the display.
Plus, I'd probably stick it by my window, which is bad because, number one, no light will get in (Not that that matters, because I don't use the window anyway. That's what electricity is for^^), and, number two, if I get kinda paranoid about the characters in my Chicago poster staring at me while I sleep (I swear, they do! No matter what section of my room I'm in, it stares at me...), Count Olaf would even be worse.
Then there's the problem with permission from the mother. I don't think the size is a problem, as it's only four-feet tall, but the talking would drive her crazy.
I still want.

I saw the display at Borders and waved my hand in front of its sensor about a dozen times. It has the funniest evil voice.

Well, it didn't take too long. There is now a display on ebay: cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=29223&item=7917013336&rd=1Somebody is already bidding on it for $49.99. The price is sure to go up from there. I've bought Lemony stuff from this seller before. I think they just sell all thr promo stuff they get on ebay for inflated prices! Maybe I should open my own online bookstore so I can get all the great free stuff!

I happened to go to another, independent bookstore today. They had the display and let me put my name and number on the back. However, they said it's up to management whether they will actually let me have it. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
