Not necessarily, many tie-in books have been published before the property (that they themselves were tied into) were released. :Edit: Also, this book was originally rumored to come out on January 2nd of this year, so who's to say it won't get pushed further back ?

Usman Ally posted this behind the scenes image today, given the costume and description I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the season 2 thread. https://www.instagram.com/p/BgO7yT1HGvp Perhaps this is Fernald at the Hotel Denouement ? Given the filming, and the fact that he doesn't appear to have his scars, it might also be from a flash-back scene that is shown during the Grim Grotto episodes.

INSIDER released a new article about season 3, which gives us some confirmation about what season 3 will be like, as well as some new info: "We just didn't think there was enough material to turn it into a two-episode show," Sonnenfeld said. "'The End' is sort of a coda." In addition to "The End," the third season adapts "The Slippery Slope," "The Grim Grotto," and "The Penultimate Peril." Sonnenfeld is directing "The Penultimate Peril" himself. "[Author Daniel Handler] always says that the ending was 'The Penultimate Peril,'" Sonnenfeld said. "It was the culmination of the series." Sonnenfeld also said "The End" will " be profoundly emotional" and cover more ground than the book. Netflix's TV adaptation has added multiple storylines while adapting the books to TV, though Sonnenfeld said the plot will end up in the same place in the end. "I think our script will be even more moving than the book," Sonnenfeld said. " It will explain a lot of questions that I think even readers had." www.thisisinsider.com/series-of-unfortunate-events-season-3-the-end-one-episode-2018-4

New interview with season 2's composer Jim Dooley: "One of Dooley’s favorite compositions appears in the fourth two-episode chapter of season two, “The Hostile Hospital,” which takes place in an institution called Heimlich Hospital[...] Dooley had a very specific vibe that he wanted the hospital volunteers to elicit. “My pitch to [director Barry Sonnenfeld] is that this needs to be something like ‘A Small World.’ Something that’s incredibly great the first time you hear it, but by time fifteen you want to strangle people,” says Dooley. “That was something where we’re going to a new place, there are new characters, they get a unique musical identity that I can provide and then weave that into the score. Heimlich Hospital is primarily a thriller, and that’s a departure from most of the episodes.” "Percussion instruments were key for Dooley to achieve the sound he wanted for the show. “The beginning of the series when I came on was like, ‘Well, how do I bring some new color to this?’ So I began with a percussion rental company here in Los Angeles and played all of the instruments that they had and picked out six or seven of my favorites. Then I sampled them in my home studio to add them to this palette.” "His choices ended up being very organic and primal, which fits well with the mood of A Series of Unfortunate Events. “I recorded a stone marimba… these ‘amphibiophones’ which are tortoise shells of all different sizes, and tuned anvils that looks like a glockenspiel but each note is actually an anvil. So these are a lot of the colors that you’re going to hear that are new in season two because they were created for season two… The music needs to be primal and make you feel uneasy that this is not going to work out for them, and any way to do that from a sonic perspective is really what I was going for.” www.denofgeek.com/us/tv/a-series-of-unfortunate-events/272232/a-series-of-unfortunate-events-new-sounds-for-season-2

This article about season 2's sets also has a little sneak peek at what the Slippery Slope will be like. "We're filming season three right now and we're currently on a snow-covered mountain which is on a soundstage," Harris laughed, incredulous. "Completely fully realized. And then over there is another part of the mountain which is all woods, so it's covered in trees. It is unbelievable the resources that they have put towards this. It's staggering." www.popsugar.com/entertainment/Where-Series-Unfortunate-Events-Filmed-44713282( I don't believe Mount Fraught had a forest in the books, which makes this another intriguing change.)

This article has some nice little pieces of information about season 2's sets. "Season two is just unbelievable. It starts in Prufrock Preparatory School that has a full school inside, with old-timey bricks on the wall and an outside, football-sized field that was all on the soundstage. And then they moved to The Ersatz Elevator book, which is an entire town they built on soundstage, including a penthouse with elevators," he explained to us and a group of other journalists. "Remarkable." Harris went on to note that for the Vile Village set, they built an entire town on a single soundstage. That means they didn't need to film interior shots elsewhere; each and every building you see was fully functional inside as well. "We would film in the actual buildings themselves. The firehouse was a fully-formed firehouse as a part of this giant town," he said. "Then you end up in a hospital, and it's a fully-realized, disastrous, scary, horror movie hospital. And we end up in the carnival with a giant circus tent in the middle, with an operational rollercoaster that's decrepit that goes around . . . I mean, these sets are massive." www.popsugar.com/entertainment/Where-Series-Unfortunate-Events-Filmed-44713282
