Karma is explain on 'My Name is Earl' as if you do something good, something good happens to you. It makes me laugh.

Unfortunately, here Karma isn't used to reward someone for doing something good, or punishing someone for doing something bad. People use it to exalt people they like and smite people they don't like "just because". It really is pointless and doesn't really prove or disprove somebody's worth.

I don't really see the point of karma, but I saw an advert for My Name Is Earl, but I forgot to watch it.

I don't like this idea of karma as I don't think it will be a very fair judging system. I can see it now, people will be making alliances with each other to karma each other up every hour. Instead of giving positive karma to people they think worthy of it they'll be swapping karma for no worthy posts. And perhaps this could lead to fights. Then people will go judging people by the amount of karma they get, in other words their true opinion of someone might be obscured by their karma points. Then you'll have those angry people who just find amusement out of smitting people every hour. Then you might get in an argument with someone and find yourself in a smitting war where you both end up with -17 karma. In conclusion I seriously don't think this is a good idea, karma will be taken advantage of. Maybe if we only give the smite/exalt options to the moderators or a responsible group of karma police. It might work out, but I still don't like the idea. I think that is putting too much thought into it. I like it, but I do agree it should be given to moderators only because it can lead to a stupid newbie fight about having no Karma. I agree, but I am the admin of a different board, and the karma power can only be given to everyone or nobody. Something to ask Proboards about.

Though it IS entertaining that Snicket has -12 Karma. Heh.

Yes Karma is rather worthless, I'm now taking it as a way to make lesser known members feel good for having a Karma point. Thanks Linda, for the idea. Also I'm not sure how but I ended up with lots of Karma, an other example of just how little Karma proves.
