Some say that VFD stands for Volunteer Fire/Family Detectives. There is some circumstantial evidence pointing in that general direction: In TRR, Lemony says that Madame DiLustro is an excellent detective, and she's most likely a VFDer since Lemony would attend VFD dinner parties. However, there's some evidence against the "detectives" theory. In his letter to Jerome, Jacques says that he's not a detective, but sometimes pretends to be one. The real question is: Which piece of evidence is more valid, and which is a red herring? Discuss.

i think the one about Madame DiLustro is a red herring, the one letter from Jaques seems pretty authentic

It might be for detectives...I still believe it's department...but please, do not get on to me for my beliefs!

I also think it's most likely Volunteer Fire Department, but was just sharing two interesting contradictory bits of evidence. The letter from Jacques does seem more valid as support for the D-is-not-for-detectives theory. Do you think Madame DiLustro is in VFD? It seems that all of Lemony's friends are.

Yeah...almost all his friends are...well, I was readong on a tripod facts thing, and it said that he had a friend named Babs that owned a yacht...*keeps rambling on about random things* she might be in V.F.D...but V.F.D could really be anything, for all we know, it could be detectives, too.

Where did you get that fact about Babs and the yacht? Babs was a minor character in THH, known only by her voice over the intercom. Lemony never mentioned her as his friend, but I might have misremembered. Anyway, can you give the link to that site?

Well, then in LSUA there's the Daily Punctilio picture... It's Jacques' picture inspecting the logging equipment. Then the next page has three dudes who are detectives saying, "And no help from any volunteers!" Would that mean Volunteer Detectives?

Babs is based off of Barbara Streissand because of her horrible singing... She's rich...

I remember now! It was not Babs, but someone named Bela who had the yacht.
There's another bit of circumstantial evidence for Volunteer Fire Detectives. Good find. If we disregard the DiLustro evidence, there's equal evidence for and against "D is for detectives". And the evidence about Madame DiLustro is sort of vague anyway.

I personally believe it is detectives. There is more evidence to that. Volueenter Fire Department is something we all know about, so it wouldn't really be a mystery would it?
