What time period do you think these books were meant to take place in?

I voted for the 1930's because of the clothes and cars and maybe it wasn't even 1930 but maybe the 1920's.

I pick the 30's. Basically because of the above and I just like that time period best.

I picked other because I think the series takes place out of time. How can there be "advanced computers" in the thirties?

I chose other because I believe that it is in the 80's-90's. Remember in ASoUE they have... -COMPUTERS -ELECTRICITY -ELEVATORS

I reckon its in the 1980s or maybe 1970s cos they got movies, elevators, advanced computers( though they seem rare). But it isnt now because of how Lemony always says That the baudelaire story is a long time ago, like 20 or 30 years. Plus the photos in UA r black n white

i believe that the story takes place out of time. there is a theory of the time-space continuim that every choice everyone makes is played out in another dimension and that there are infinante dimensions that we cannot see/percieve. i believe that this is what ls is hinting at

I had this twisted theory that Lemony's books take place in a post-apocalyptic future where most technology has been destroyed, hence the juxtaposition of modern technology with older-fashioned things. However, the parallel universe idea works just as well, perhaps better.

My opinion. ASOUE takes place everywhere and nowhere. At first, I thought it was 1930's, because of the way they dressed, and the cars, but then in TAA, the advanced computer. It just made me think more, about it, and it makes more sense to take place in no time period.

I dont remember them saying this but i am very forgetful, in the books does it say where, as in what country, it takes place? Because I've always assumed it was the United States because thats where DH is from but I could be wrong.
I put in this time period. In the 1930's an advanced computer was considered anything that could do much more than basic mathemactics. I dont think that was all the advaced computers in TAA could do. So, I definetly think that the books are in an era after the 1950's.

well its kinda strange how airplanes and satelites and all that haven't been mentioned at all, so the era probably is before the 50's, before they had that space craze thing. If it was the 50's, then all Count Olaf would do is just say that the Baudelaires were Soviet spies and then he wouldve won.

I dont think it's weird that airplanes and satilites havent been metioned. There isnt really any place in the story where they would have any purpose. They are never in or talk about space. And so far in the book the only thing that really could be said about airplanes is they heard or saw one flying overhead.
