There might already be a thread about this, but I'll post it anyway. Has anyone else noticed that there are quite a few things in threes in this series of books? The Baudelaire's are a group of three children, there are the Quagmire triplets, and in TSS the White-Faced ladies have a reference to a sister that died in a fire, the three initials of the organization V.F.D., the three clues to open the Vernacularly Fastened Door, the three (at least, only three are mentioned) animals that help V.F.D. (the crows, eagles, and lions). I have another theory that stems from the three's thing. Mrs. Baudelaire is possibly the sister of the White-Faced ladies. Doubtful, but possible. Another possibility. Olaf is Lemony and Jacques Snicket's brother. We never hear Olaf's last name, and it would continue the trend of three's. Let me know if you have anything to add, or any thoughts on what I said.

Why would he kill anyone? He's a stupid person.
I think there might be a thread where this was mentioned, but not one where this is the actual topic. I think you have a good point, but Olaf is not Lemony's brother, because he and Jacques have a sister (K) making three siblings.

Guys... read LS:UA... There is Jaques... Lemony... And a Snicket sister... So Olaf would make 4, unless he is indeed a female... And that would mean Esmé is a lesbian... Which would mean Jerome is a girl... Which would... Let's put it this way... Too many things would be meant...

Yeah, in the UA, the family tree, or "recuitment list" as we like to call it, proves that the VFD siblings, or the Snicket family, comes in threes. As the mystery surrounds the three Baudelaire children, along with their orphaned triplet friends, we can nearly saftley assume that VFD recruitments come in threes, or that VFDers are required to have 3 kids.

It's just that there must be a reason why he's nervous with them, whether their siblings or not.
But if they were siblings, then I find it strange that he'd be scared of them. Maybe they used to gang up on him during chilhood...

On the VFD family tree in LSUA there is a branch labeled O with a noose on it, and I think we can agree that that's Olaf. Also, there are two branches next to it(siblings) labeled M and N. Perhaps M and N are Olaf's siblings(man with beard but no hair and woman with hair but no beard. Just a thought. And if they weren't his siblings why would they give him the Snicket file? It's an important document so why would 2 villains give it to just anyone? I think the other posts saying that they ganged up on him are correct, that would give him a reason to act "skittish" around them.

They gave him the snicket file because he burnt down the Carnival for them. Plus both r (probably) on the same side of the schism and I reckon the two anonimous ppls r the leaders or one of the leaders in the schism. They must b reeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaallly evil for Olaf to be scared of them. Maybe theyr Mass murderers or terrorists or something like that:D
