I was wondering, do you think the Baudelaires notice the clues to the next books?
I mean in the 1st one, when they were waving to Justice Strauss out, what I think was, the back window(s), one of them must have noticed the snake.
And they MUST have seen the guys Lachrymose Leeches T-shirt.
They might have noticed the hanging glasses.
And once again, they MUST! have seen the school bus! I mean come on!
So...? Any ideas?

I think maybe they noticed those things, but didn't actually remember them, or see anything strange, because they didn't know that they would go somewhere that envolves them.

Well, they might have seen the schoolbus, but then again, they aren't in the picture.
As Dupin said, they probably don't remember the trival details when they are in a sorrowful and/or desperate situation.
But they probably wouldn't have thought the crow from TEE as important because crows live everywhere. Nor would they have remembered the red herring bumper sticker, and if they did remember it after the EE events, they probably wouln't have linked it to their next tragic situations.
But I agree, they should have noticed the "Madam Lulu" flyer in the trunk of Olaf's car. I mean, they were in there for hours. Klaus probably would have read it, for something to do to pass the time. They wouldn't have sat there thinking "Oh, what a miserable place we're in, I hope no one needs something from the trunk" for hours straight, would they? They'd observe their surroundings, and try to think a way out their predicament.

The trunk was dark except for the light which might enter through the bullet holes. Can you imagine trying to read anything under such conditions? They'd probably get car sick and wouldn't that be pleasant?

I always read in the dark. Although it's supposedly bad for your eyes. And I always read in the car on long journeys.

Ah, but do you read in the car in the dark without a flashlight on long journeys?

I want to know if a mushroom in the picture in the back of TSS has to do with a greenhouse, or they have to eat mushrooms, or what.

The 'shrooms are the clues--mushrooms grow near grottos, next book is grim grotto.
And the piccies are for us, not the Bauds.

Ah, but do you read in the car in the dark without a flashlight on long journeys? I have never read with a flashlight on long journeys. I never read with one. Except at night when I'm supposed to be asleep. But that's not the same.

What exactly is a Grotto? Is it a cave of some sort?

Well, they might have seen the schoolbus, but then again, they aren't in the picture... But wouldn't the Baudelaires have looked out the window to see if they could jump out or something? I mean, if I was there, I'd look out the window, if only to see OC escape. wouldn't you?

I don't think they would have noticed the Madame Lulu thing. It was supposedly pitch black as I recall.

I doubt they would have been able to tell what was going to happen anyway. We can't even be sure until the next book came out.

I always read in the dark. Although it's supposedly bad for your eyes. And I always read in the car on long journeys. Oh my God, exact same thing with me! I don't think the things were actually there (except maybe the crow, the Madame Lulu flyer, and the Last Chance Gen. Store ad on the back of The DP) with the Baudelaires. I think Helquist and Snicket just wanted to drop hints as to what the next book might reveal.
