Remember in the Princess Bride when the grandson asks "Who kills Humperdinck?" and the grandfather answers "Nobody kills him. He lives."?

I hope Olaf lives and that's part of the reason it won't have a happy ending. None of the books has neatly tied all the loose ends up, why should the series?
