either as an evil V.F.D.er a guy who's just sort of mixed up in everything without really knowing what's going on or having any control over stuff. Yes, I think he sort of thinks he's in charge and everything, but the principal of PPP is a VFDer, looking over the Bauds and/or the Quags. He thinks he's in charge, but he's actually not; they just let him think that so they can get on w/ their VFD business.

on the 'evil nero' subject, in the authors notes, Nero was an evil roman emporor who did many unfortunate things. dictionary reference: Emperor of Rome (54-68) whose early reign was dominated by his mother, Agrippina the Younger. He had his mother and wife murdered, and he may have set the Great Fire of Rome (64). His cruelty and irresponsibility provoked widespread revolts, which led to his suicide. www.roman-emperors.org/nero.htm

From Chronicle of the Roman Emperors by Chris Scarre:
Nero was at Antium when the fire began, but hurried back as soon as the scale of the disaster became clear. He organized relief measures, opened public buildings as temporary shelters and provided cheap grain. Once the flames were out he gave funds for restoration work and issued strict regulations to reduce the risk of any future recurrence. Despite all this, people became convinced that Nero had started the fire himself in order to clear land for his new Golden House. Nor was this helped by the story that at the height of the fire, 'viewing the conflagration from the tower of Maecenas and exulting, as he said, in "the beauty of the flames", he sang the whole of the "Sack of Ilium" [one of his own compositions] in his regular stage costume.' Few people were fooled when he blamed the fire on the Christians.
---------------------------------------- also:
Nero fancied himself as a poet, but opinion was divided on his literary ability. Tacitus is scathing, but Suetonius had inspected the manuscripts themselves and was adamant that Nero had composed his own poetry. Very little survives for us to judge for ourselves ...
