It was TCC, I'm fairly certain...

I can't find the quote but I remember reading the LSUA right before I read TCC and thought it was odd of their parents to bring them to the vineyard and was certain they were volunteers.

I can't find the quote but I remember reading the LSUA right before I read TCC and thought it was odd of their parents to bring them to the vineyard and was certain they were volunteers. I finally found it. TCC, p. 202. This vineyard was famous for having grapes that smelled delicious, and it was very pleasant to picnic in the fields, while the fragrance drifted in the air and the vineyard's famous donkeys, who helped carry bushels of grapes at harvesttime, slept in the shade of the grapevines.Sunny was not born when this happened. The children were separated from their parents in the rush of a train crowd and spent some time searching for them. I wonder now if their parents deliberately got away for a time in order to do some V.F.D. business.

Vineyard's Famous Donkeys! Look! Mr Snicket, you are a genius... Excellent, another set of V.F.D. trained animals is found. I wonder if they serve some function other than harvesting...
