I think he looks......well, I think a better picture is deserved before we judge. Maybe one that he's actually looking at the camera...

Yeah, the picture isn't the best, but thus far it is the only one. We won't know how good Jim will be as Olaf until we see the film. I'm not gonna judge on the pictures. He can't look exactly like the cartoonish drawing on the cover of The Bad Beginning. I'm gonna wait until December 2004 to judge, and if he or the movie sucks, oh well. I too would like to see a front shot.

I actually think Jim will wow the sceptics away, just like with Man On The Moon. I think he is able to nail a *perfect* Count Olaf and I'm looking forward to it :-D. I admire Jim in that aspect...when he made Man on the Moon he WAS Andy during the filming...everyone called him Andy, he was 100% submerged... www.examiner.ie/breaking/2004/01/02/story127796.htmlCarrey 'a far cry' from his usual self Hollywood comedian Jim Carrey, 41, has been turning heads on the set of his new adventure/comedy Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, by turning up with "more security than any Hollywood star ever," an insider said. "Each day before he starts, he has the set cleared and closed for anyone but absolutely essential personnel." The source said Carrey also avoids spending time with the many child actors on the film. It is a strange turnabout for the Canadian star. An insider who worked with Carrey only two months ago says this new Jim is "a far cry" from the one on the set of his last film, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, where he paid for his own personal chef and other amenities and happily mingled with extras. Sounds like Olaf behaviour to me.

[glow=blue,2,300]BAH[/glow] to all of you unbelievers out there! clearly, there will be differences between the book and the movie that will be annoying (aren't there always?), but Carrey should be a great Count Olaf. You'll see. You'll come crawling back, begging for forgiveness! And why can't they wait until the series is done to make the movie! Argh! I'm boycotting the movie- this just makes me too upset. I take it you're boycotting the HP movies as well, since that series isn't even half over, and the movies are going to catch up to the books if they're not careful. Carrey 'a far cry' from his usual self "Each day before he starts, he has the set cleared and closed for anyone but absolutely essential personnel." Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if he goes to further lengths than that. I'm excited to hear more of these kinds of stories.

Ugh. First thing's first. That pic of Jim as Olaf was taken in secrecy, and Jim didnt know about it. The photographer on set obviously took a quick and illegal pic of him. Its not cheap, its making sure that you dont get arrrested when taking pics you arent supposed to.
And as for Jim as Olaf and how he wont do so well, I absoloutly disagree. From day one, I was excited about him doing this film for one reason: if you can pull off funny, you can pull off anything else, and the character of Olaf is both funny and sinister. Jim is the only one who can do that. And plus, this is getting alot of attention BECAUSE of Jim. See where Im foing? Jim is perfect for this. thats all there is to say.

That's the thing I don't want there to be a lot of attention to the movie because attention means a lot of mercahndise and a lot of mercahndise means people forgeting about the books and people making cheap paper cover versions of the first three books in one with cheap foal color pics in the middle. And don't forget people coming on here thinking this is all about the movies and putting a whole bunch of spam on threads not on the movies/

That's the thing I don't want there to be a lot of attention to the movie because attention means a lot of mercahndise... The reason you fear this is because it is a universal truth. Just be prepared for it, for that type of fan is going to far outnumber the "readers", especially in the States. You might as well get used to the idea of people who've never read the books and have no intention of ever doing so (for reference, see Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc.) Face it, this film is going to get a lot of attention. With Jim Carrey involved, it has to be hyped to get any type of return on the salary he commands. There is a marketing powerhouse just waiting to be unleashed, just wait until December gets closer.
