I love the first pic but I hate the second pic! Hopefully Emily and Liam arnt in costume. Come on Klaus needs his glasses, maybe a bowtie like in the books but thats not a big issue. It would ruin everything if Violet had her hair braided and DIDNT NEED HER RIBBON!!!!!! And whats VIOLET without her VIOLETdress!?!?!?

Perhaps...it's a dinner scene....and Olaf is showing of the kids? ("Sily girl, take that stupid ribbon out of your hair. Boy, you look even stupider in those glasses." ) Or it's after Klaus is slapped and his glasses slid across the room.
Well, he wouldn't look bookish even w/glasses.

I love the first pic but I hate the second pic! Hopefully Emily and Liam arnt in costume... How many times do we have to say this: THEY'RE IN COSTUME. Nickelodeon is obviously selling this film to mainstream teenagers, not hardcore fans of the books which is wise if they hope to make their money back, let alone turn a profit. We represent a tiny fraction of the audience they're hoping to snare. Either accept that this film will not look like Brett's illustrations, or just decide to ignore the film now, because it's not going to get any better for you, mark my words. Let me paint a picture for you. Live-action Klaus + Glasses = Harry Potter. That's the last thing Nickelodeon and Paramount wants.

I'm sure Paramount isn't thinking that far ahead. A lot of people are focusing on the importance of the glasses in books beyond 1-3, but for this film, it's irrelevant. You're assuming that it will even get a sequel.
As for the height issue, if you feel that this level of minutae is that important, you can't help but be disappointed. I submit again that they are irrelevent for the telling of this film's story.
You ask if they're going to have to rewrite events in future books, assuming this film gets a sequel. I'm telling you that they've undoubtedly rewritten major events in books 1-3, and you really should enter the film experience ready to judge it on its own merits and not keep a running checklist against the book text or again, you're just going to walk away unhappy. I've seen it time and time again, even in a text with a thousand times more fans who are far more hardcore than we are, i.e. Lord of the Rings.
Just judging from the stills released so far, purists will likely hate this film, regardless of whether it is actually good or not.

Even if the movie bites the dust in contrast to the books, I will still see it, I mean LOTR was still the coolest movie and it didn't go with the book very well.....AT ALL! (Tom cut, Arwen added? C'mon now!) Anyway! I think Daniel Handler is serculating good and wierd pics to freak us out, I think he sees those people who freak out and cuss out Carrey and he laughs cuz they have no idea what they're talking about.I think he likes seeing us squirm.

Esme has just proven my point, re: Lord of the Rings.

I LOVE IT. Olaf is gorgeous, if such a word can ever be used to describe Olaf. The kids are a good adaptation to screen. I am pleased. Obviously I am in the minority here. The set is beautiful, give me that at least. I wonder is Jude Law is going to get screen time also, or only narrate. Flashbacks of him and Beatrice (never quite getting a glimpse of her face?) would be the bombness. I want more.

And whats VIOLET without her VIOLET dress!?!?!? Well, Violet can't wear the same dress throughout the whole movie. Probably most fans that arn't like, totally obsessed with ASoUE won't even notice. But.... no glasses on Klaus really bugs me. Damn Nickelodeon! Damn Harry Potter! Oh well...

The fishnet sleeves on Violet freaked me out, but maybe these are the awful clothes Mrs. Poe bought them. Maybe fisnets are IN. I do agree though that Violet needs her hair ribbon and Klaus needs his glasses. If Klaus' glasses were more squarish than round, I don't think people would think Harry Potter. That would be cuter anyway. In the second picture, it looks like there are eyes carved into the woodwork. Cool.

Okay, let me clear up the whole thing on Klaus's glasses and Violet's dress.
My insider gave me a generous detail on the reason Klaus isnt wearing his glasses, and thats because he doesnt wear them unless hes reading. Im pretty sure its because they dont watn people thinking of Harry Potter when seeing this movie.
As for Violet's dress, its supposed to be a victorian style/modern style. Since the books take place in a time that never existed, they wanted an odd style for Violet that doesnt exist to this day. Its kinda odd, but I like it!

What would we do without you and your inside sources? Heh. Still, if they make a TMM movie, what will they do about Klau's constant glasses wearing?

What would we do without you and your inside sources? Heh. Still, if they make a TMM movie, what will they do about Klau's constant glasses wearing? Again, while it's fun to speculate, I'm sure that Paramount isn't thinking that far ahead. (spoilers for Book 4) . . . . . . . . . Besides, they can alter the story so that there's another reason why Klaus needs to be sent away for long periods of time, as that is the only important plot point. The glasses thing was sort of contrived anyway, especially after the third time. Even Snicket's narration underlines that fact-- "You'd think that a trick so simple wouldn't work again..."
