"I don't remember seeing anyone named Alfred on the invitation list..." Malise mumbled. "It's fine, honey. You must have missed it." Her mother said, stepping out of the kitchen. Malise turned to Duncan. "Then don't go in the garage. It's full of my collection of exotic man-eating insects, arachnids, invertabrates and arthropods. And some snow-gnats, too, even though they're just annoying."

Violet backs away from Malaise's mother and into Alfred. "Hello," Violet says.

"Is there anything in this house that might not kill me?" Duncan shouted, second-guessing his idea to come here, a phrase here which means wondering who in the world decided to talk him into coming here.

"Yes, there is. We rented a portable dance floor and it's in te back yard." She said through clenched teeth. "It's not my fault that my mother invited every kid I ever laid eyes on that goes or used to go to Prufrock prep."

"Eh. . . Hello young girl, I believe your name is Violet and that you are 15 years and 1 day(s) old. Are you good at maths?"

"All right, part of me feels that something is wrong with the dance floor, but there's nothing else to do..." Duncan said reluctantly, a word here means not exactly wanting to step on the dance floor of a homiciadal maniac, stepping on to the dance floor.

"There is something wrong with it." She snickered. "Me. I'm the only girl that seems to be interested in dancing, and you're the only boy." She batted her long eyelashes and held out a cold, bony hand. You could see tiny skull decals on her twoi inch black nails, and amber ring with a wasp incased in it on her middle finger. "Will you have this dance?"

"HOW DO YOU KNOW MY NAME!?!" Violet yells in confusion. "And how do you know my age? And who are you, really? And, no, I'm actually more into mechanics and science, but that requires a strong, solid math base, so yeah, I guess....."

Why me, thought Duncan as he took her bony hand, still not trusting here as a horrid tune struck up. "Well, it's not too bad" Duncan said still a little phobic, a word here meaning worried that Malise would throw him into the lake.

"No offence." Said Malise, pulling Duncan and herself a little farther away from the edge. "But you're really weird. I'm not a homicidal maniac, I'm an entimologist, but anyone who studies bugs has to be a little crazy, right?"

"Well, that's a relief!" Duncan replied, getting more into the dancing. "I'm glad I don't have to worry about dying!" he said, twirling Malise, and then dipping her.
