F, for Felicity, is fourteen and distraught. Orphaned daughter of Kit Snicket, she ran away from the orphanage at age twelve. She's been searching for her uncle, Lemony, ever since. She has a great eye for detail, which is quite useful, as she is an artist. During her search for her uncle she has stumbled across much information on V.F.D. * * * * F walked into the cafe sullenly. She was wet from head to toe, and a lead she'd been following had turned up dry. She ordered a chai tea and a biscotti, and settled down in a comfortable chair. She pulled out her commonplace book, but as she removed it from her shoulder bag, she dropped it. F bent down to pick up her notes, but another hand got there before hers did. "Here." offered a brown-haired girl who seemed about a year older than her. F took the notebook from the girl's hands wordlessly. The girl had already settled back into her book, Green Mansions . F nearly gasped. She would recognize that title anywhere! "Excuse me," she asked "Have you been good to your mother?". The brown-haired girl seemed shocked for a moment, then replied "The question is, has my mother been good to me?". "I'm F." said F. "G." said the girl.

I'll be A, an acrobat with a skill for acrobatics and flexibilty and balance. Blonde hair, black commonplace book, usually disguised like a carnival or a fair acrobat.
A bent over the glass window with ease, peering in, watching the TV. A man, his back and his sofa's back towards the window, was fast asleep and snoring rather loudly. "It might be a disguise, the snoring," noted A mentally. He was hanging from his knees. He grabbed the sill below him, swung his legs down, and landed on the ground three feet below. The TV was eyewitness news coverage of a fire at the Bourne Ohsev Theatre, which had been started by E, or rather was it F? Anyhow, he had to get news of it quickly, and this was the only way. "It apparently had been started in the snack stand," thought A, looking at the reporter's lips (he was a good mouth-reader). It was started during the second half of Realtors in the Cave, a work of Sebald. "Perfect," thought A, "but what was their motivation?" As he looked, he gasped. The woman was saying that only one thing had been removed or melted in the rubble- the sugar compartment of the snack stand. A gasped and thought, "The SUGAR BOWL!"

It seemed no one was around, so V yawned again, grabbing his bag and leaving the library as carefully as possible. He didn't want to be noticed if he had not noticed another. Walking into the rain, V snorted unhappily, lifting his bag above his head, careful to keep his commonplace dry. There were too many secrets to lose just because of a bit of rain.
The pour began to pick up speed and he frantically looked for the nearest opening. Dashing into a cafe doorway, he tripped into the door, almost falling over near the counter. Blushing slightly, he lifted his head and looked around, sheepish. Had anyone noticed? He hoped not. -Not the most graceful in the world, V, - he thought, setting his now soaked bag next to the nearest empty chair.

F whipped her head around as a small bell rang. A boy with a nervous look about him strode in the door. His features were striking. Two bright blue eyes and a wild halo of black hair made him stand out. He looked to be about the same age as G. He sped through the door and almost tumbled to the ground before catching himself on a counter. F watched as he sat down in an armchair and began flipping through a notebook. He kept glancing in F's direction, as though he was spying on her, which made F very uneasy.

F gasped. Two members of V.F.D. in one day, when she wasn't even looking, after two years of searching. Was it just a coincidence? She said the response in a whisper, as she was beginning to sense that she should try to keep this as secret as possible. "The world is quiet here." she replied, her voice shaking.

G started to feel something was wrong, "you seem worried is everything ok, are we in danger? who is that man that keeps looking at you?" he whispered "acctually we better do this properly meet me in the library 3 streets down from here tomorrow at 4:00 in the German poetory section, the world is quiet there." signalling that this was a safe place "ill keep my eye on him" gesturing slyly at the unknown boy "but i have a suspision he may also be one of us, oh how rude of me, i'm G" then addressing the other girl "i hope your mother has been good to you" then in a subtle whisper "library tomorrow at 4:00, German poetry section, the world is quiet there" and with that he walked back to the counter to write this moment in his commonplace book

F promptly left the cafe, shaken by her experiences. She caught a bus to the library where she worked part-time. After work, she walked to the small house where she had been renting a room for the past month. F stayed up recording the day's events and reading before finally curling up under her covers. At six o'clock F woke up and got ready. She headed to an Indian rug store whose owner had told her that a middle-aged man with a notebook had shown up. Then she went to an apartment of a woman who had said that a myserious man had been lurking around a playground and taking photographs of her son. Unfortunately, neither could offer any information on the whereabouts of the man. * * * * Four o'clock came at last and F walked to the library and saw G in the German poetry section on a comfortable couch. F walked over to the couch timidly.

Z was busy at the make-shift headquarters studying the behavior of wolves that were wandering around outside. She sketched out one of them on the paper she had in her hand. Just as she finished, one howled and they all ran off into the woods. Her dog, Lokee, stood up and went over to his favorite spot in the corner of the room. Suddenly Z heard a lound SLAM! behinder her....

"Well, I was put into an orphanage at a young age. I escaped at twelve, and took shelter in a library. I was looking for a book on a high shelf when I stumbled upon a set of thirteen dusty books. The described the unfortunate lives of three orphans. I uncovered information linking me to the author. I've been looking for my uncle ever since." said F.

G heard this story with intrest, he too was looking for his family. " im sorry to hear you are without family, i too am an orphan from the age of twelve. as a strange conisidence i am also looking for my family but i unfortunatly dont really know who they are. i only know them as J, K and L snicket. this is due to the battered ripped up copy of my family tree which only bears these letters as names. tell me have you met any other members of V.F.D in this city? i have only tracked one member down other than you, but i have yet to meet them. i think she is called Z and is currently residing in a makeshift hut in the forest hear here. I was going to see if i could find her in a few days. How about you come with me, the more allies we have the better. " said G excited by the prospect of having a smal group of fellow V.F.D members in the same city excied him he could finally be like the famous members he had read storys of.

"We should wait here for G, or at least leave a coded note. She'll be wondering where we are." said F. She pullled out a tape recorder and a small, silver bell.

V sighed heavily, watching the girl go. Now he was all alone again, and bored to boot. -Drat,- he thought to himself as he watched the rain pour, before standing and subtly swiping an umbrella and stepping back outdoors. He was just far enough from the bus stop to actually make it this time, having missed the bus several hours before, forcing him to stay in a library to pass the time - not that that was bad, but he had fallen asleep without being able to research anything of use.
Stepping onto the bus, he smiled slightly at a man whose face was covered rather obviously. He motioned for V to move on without paying, closing the door before anyone could get in. V watched as the small bus moved, leaving a small and angry crowd behind.
V sat down uneasily, sensing a trap a tad too late. He merely watched out the window as the city was left behind, fields being replaced by a large amount of trees. The bus suddenly stopped, the driver turning to look at V, who, startled, looked back.
"Geroff," muttered the man, opening the doors. "You'll be welcomed here."
Confused, V slowly made his way down the aisle, the man never looking away. It really was quite disconcerting. V stepped off the bus, looking around at the quiet forest before turning.
"Um, where am I?" he asked quietly.
The bus driver merely closed the doors and drove off, leaving V to stare into trees. Turning around, he looked the forest over again, noticing a barely used path. Sighing he began down it, looking about periodically to try and find signs he could remember, should he get lost.
The time was easily lost in a place like this, V found, for he had to have been walking for a few hours at the least. Tired, he paused, sitting on a stump near the path. Yawning, he stretched, then looked ahead, noticing a small shack. Curious, V stood and walked quickly toward it, wondering if someone was inside, for he had heard a howl earlier and was slightly worried as to whether or not he would be eaten soon by some form of hungry creature.
V raised his hand to knock on the door, but must have gone too hard, for it slammed open, bouncing off an unseen wall and slamming shut again. A titch more careful this time, the volunteer opened the door, peering inside.
"Hello?"
