Panting, Carmelita turned around to face whatever undergrouind tunnel monster was behind her but to her relief nothing was there. Slowly she touched her back where the cold liquid was. It felt sticky and the smell was familar to her when she withdrew her hand she noticed to her horror it was covered in blood.

Lindow sniffed. "Do you smell blood, Sunny?"

Sunny nodded, and began walking a little faster. "Howfar?" *Exactly how far away from the tunnel are we, do you know?*

"Not approximately." Lindow said. "But I'd say we're pretty close."

Sunny ran faster, and soon made it to the tunnel where the screaming now resumed. With a start, she realized who was screaming.

Claire was only temporarily distracted by the noise. Her attention then was fixed on outside when the screaming started up again. Now Claire was truly worried something was wrong. She called to the voice, "What's wrong? What is it? Do you need help?"

"AHHHHH! AHHHH! AHHHH!" Carmelita screamed as she stared at the blood on her hand. Being hemophobic as she was, it wasn't long before she fainted.

Claire was answered by silence. She knew something had happened. Something was wrong. She unlocked the large wooden door and found Carmelita sprawled on the stone floor in a puddle of blood.

"Here!" Lindow said to Sunny, ducking under a canvas covering a hole in the wall. The first thing she saw was the bloody Carmelita. "Oh, good Lord! Is she dead?"

"Where did all this blood come from?!" Claire worried. It didn't appear like Carmelita could have hurt herself. She looked down the passageway and saw Sunny with Lindow running towards the scene. She listened to Lindow's question and immediately went down to her knees to check Carmelita's pulse. "She's still alive," Claire reassured them. "It appears she just fainted." She turned Carmelita on her back in a more comfortable position and stood back. She couldn't figure out where the source of the blood came from. There weren't any wounds on Carmelita's body, and she was sure it wasn't there when she had first arrived. Then a drop of the scarlet blood dropped from above onto Carmelita's hand.

Lindow gasped. "The wood! The ceiling is made of driftwood, someone is bleeding on the floor above us!"

"We should go find out what is going on upstairs," Claire suggested. "Do you know where in the orphanage this spot would be, Lindow?"

"It would be the passage under the sewing room, directly under the supply closet. That has a driftwood floor."

Everyone started heading for the exit, but Claire stopped them. "Wait a minute, what about Carmelita? We shouldn't just leave her here, should we?"

"You're right. We ought to bring her to the nurse's office before we continue."
