[God, that has to be the worst title for an RPG ever. Carmy, if you can think of something better let me know.] This is an RPG centering around Esmé's childhood when she is about twelve years old. We have no idea where it's going, but wanted to do something with Esmé as a kid. Players:

Esmé Salinger sat quietly by the window in her sixth grade classroom at the Roald Dahl junior high school, tapping the bottom of her pencil against her lip. An essay. That was the assignment her teacher had given out to the class. Esmé hated essays… essays and schoolwork in general. School was such a stupid waste of time, and she saw no point in going at all. The only reason she did go was because her parents made her.
From behind her, Esmé could hear the other girls laughing and whispering about her as usual. Pamela, with her designer jeans, and her best friend, Stacy, who was head of the cheerleading squad. Esmé hated both of them, for they always teased her about her uneven bangs and tattered clothing.
At last, she decided that she’d had enough of the two Miss Popularities’ continuous giggling. Esmé turned around and shouted, “Would you two mind shutting up? I can’t concentrate!”
As if on cue, every head in the classroom turned around to face Esmé. She felt her face grow hot with embarrassment just as the teacher sent her an angry look.
“Miss Salinger, if you insist on being disruptive, I must insist that you take your essay into the hallway and finish it there.”

"No ma'am," Esme' replied in a hateful tone. She hated her teacher. She hated everyone in her whole school for that matter. They were all cruel to her. Despite the fact that she got into trouble almost every day, Esme had potential to be a nice person. If only other people were nice to her. She was pretty too. Her family couldn't afford nice clothing though. Therefore, people were mean to her.

[You're so good!]
“Very well,” Esmé’s teacher replied.
Esmé mumbled something indistinct and then returned to writing her essay. The assignment was to write about what you wanted to be when you grew up, and she figured it couldn’t be that painful considering she knew exactly what her future career would be. Someday, she would be the greatest actress in the world, and then no one would ever tease her again. If Pamela and Stacy ever came to one of her shows and made an attempt to talk to her, Esmé could just pretend she didn’t know them, like the way they pretended not to know her every time she approached them in the hallway to ask them a question about last night’s homework.

Esme' eventually finished her essay and turned it in. It wasn't the best in the world, but it would have to do. Finally, the bell rang and it was time to go home. Despite the fact that she lived in a poor home, Esme' was always ready to leave school. As she was walking out of the classroom, Pamela and Stacy bumped into her, sending her to the floor."Oops, my bad," exclaimed Stacy, who of course had done it on purpose. Suddenly, Esme' stood up, and without warning, pushed Stacy back. Not even bothering to look back, Esme' turned around and ran all the way home, crying.

As usual, Esmé returned to an empty household. Her father was an employee at Lucky Smells Lumber Mill and her mother was a seamstress at a dress shop in town. Neither would be home for several hours, and so Esmé made the best of things and occupied herself until then.
She was still upset by what had happened after school between her and the other girls. It wasn’t as if being pushed around by the two Miss Popularities was anything new— Pamela and Stacy did it to Esmé on a daily basis —but emotionally it still hurt.
Esmé sighed as she took the can opener and opened up a can of cat food, which she poured into her cat’s dish and slid it over to him. The animal purred contentedly, rubbing up against her leg and butting her hand with his head and she petted him.
“Well, at least you like me,” Esmé said.

She let her cat eat and decided to fix herself a snack. Esme' hardly ever ate lunch at school. She never bothered, for she knew someone would steal her food. That was why she was so hungry. Esme' opened the fridge and looked at her choices. All she saw that she liked was ham & cheese. So she fixed herself a ham and cheese sandwich. While she was eating, she heard the front door open and shut. Then, she heard her mother's stilletto heels tottering down the hallway.

Esmé watched her mother as she entered the kitchen. Mrs. Salinger was a tall, pale-complexioned woman with flowing dark hair. It was apparent just by looking at the two of them together that they were mother and daughter or— as some people sometimes suspected —sisters. Mrs. Salinger looked at least ten years younger than her thirty-five years, and was always pleased when someone carded her every time she bought alcohol or cigarettes.
“Hi, Mom,” Esmé said from her place at the table.
“Hello, darling,” Mrs. Salinger replied, setting her purse down on the counter before taking a seat at the table across from her daughter. “How was school?”
Esmé didn’t bother to lie. Her mother knew her too well, and would be able to sense a lie the moment the words left Esmé’s mouth. “Awful,” she said.

"Darling, try not to worry about what others think," said Mrs. Salinger. She didn't understand why people teased her darling. Esme' was such a sweet and beautiful child. She had never done anything to the children at school. "To me, you're always beautiful," she continued." I know what it is, they're jealous of you. Always remember that".

[Aww, I love how you write Esmé's mom.]
Esmé shrugged. She knew her mother meant every word she said, but it was hard when Esmé was the one who had to spend her days in a place she hated where the other children mocked her just for being poor. At least once a week she would ask her parents to hire a tutor just so she wouldn’t have to worry about being teased, and it was now that she asked her mother this. “Can’t you and Daddy hire someone to home school me?”
“Esmé,” Mrs. Salinger said, squeezing her daughter’s hand. “We’ve talked about this. Even with both our salaries, your father and I can’t afford a tutor. I’m sorry, darling, and I know it’s hard, but you’re just going to have to learn to ignore the other children when they bother you.”

"Mother, you don't understand!' cried Esme', who was beginning to cry." Mother, why can't I have just one friend? Just one!" She wished that she could have a friend. Someone that wouldn't make fun of her. Esme' continued to cry, while her mother sat across from her, wondering how she could help her distraught daughter.

[Hey, I’m wondering: remember in the books— or it might only be mentioned in Lemony Snicket: the Autobiography —where Esmé and Beatrice met at a tea party? What if we reenacted that scene in the RP? It’s up to you. Let me know what you think.]
“I’m miserable at that horrid school,” Esmé went on. “I couldn’t concentrate today because Pamela and Stacy were whispering about me, and when I told them to knock it off the teacher accused me of being disruptive!” Tears streaming down her cheeks, Esmé fled the table, barely missing stepping on her cat’s tail on her way out of the kitchen.
A moment later, Mrs. Salinger heard her daughter’s bedroom door slam. She was always after Esmé to stop doing that, but under the circumstances Mrs. Salinger supposed she really couldn’t blame her.

Esme' expected to hear her mother say something like " Dont slam your door, Esme'!, but instead she heard nothing. Her mother deserved an apology, and she knew it. Quietly, Esme' opened her bedroom door. She stepped out into the hallway just as the front door opened. She knew that it was her father, and how glad she was.

Since Mr. Salinger worked at Lucky Smells Lumbermill, he always came home smelling of wood shavings and horseradish— for the mill was located right near a field containing horseradish.
“Hi, Daddy,” Esmé said, and ran into her father’s open arms.
“Esmé,” he said, and swung her up above his head (she was still small enough for him to be able to do this). “How’s my little darling?”
Esmé laughed for the first time all day, and for the time being she felt her troubles as they melted away. “Fine now that you’re home,” she replied.
“Bad day at school again?” Mr. Salinger asked, frowning as he set his daughter down.
Esmé nodded. “Yes.”
“I have something that will cheer you up. A friend of mine at work is hosting a tea party this Thursday for the co-workers and their families. There are sure to be some children your own age there, too. How would you like to go?”

" Sure!" Esme' cried. She loved going to things like tea parties. And, maybe she would make a friend there. Then, a question hit her. What would she wear? People wore fancy clothes to tea parties. And Esme' had no fancy clothes. Her family couldn't afford them. She couldn't wear normal clothes there, or else she'd never make a friend. Esme' was devastated.
