Brett. But this thread should belong in the LS book section. I'd say under weary writer.

Brett. It looks less computerized and I just prefer his style.

It's a difficult decision! Both of them are great, but if I had to choose just one, it would be Brett Helquist.

Brett. They're both great artists, but I prefer Brett more. He has great paintings, and the way he blends all the colors together....amazing... ;D

Definitely Helquist. Mary Grand Pre's style is kind of neat, but it's been capitalized on so much that I'm completely sick of it. Those stupid lighting bolt tattoos are everywhere and the colour combinations she used are on all Harry Potter merchandise (which there is a lot of). I kind of feel sorry for her - it must suck to see your art turned into meaningless crap like toilet paper holders and stuff. My aunt and uncle live in her old house...I found that ultimately cool. Eneway. Helquist uses interesting artistic shading techniques like cross-hatching and pointillism and stuff. So he's my hero x 10. ^_^

I like Brett Helquist's illustrations better as well because of the cross-hatching style and the sorta gothic style going on. The only think I don't like so much are the colours.

The American Harry Potter artist, who I think is the one you mean, I find really distasteful. Her drawings are ugly, unnatural, stiff, and cliched.
Brett has a light, original style that is quite admirable, and a genius for working clues into drawings. I also do like his colour schemes. The Grim Grotto cover is his best effort yet.

I voted for Helquist.
I like Mary Grand Pre until the movies came out, the pictures then look bad.
I hope this doesnt happen to Helquist.

Helquist. There is so much more feeling in his illustrations. The HP ones are just so...fake.

I voted for Brett because he draws much more detail then Mary. If you look at the two covers you can see how there is more small designs and stuff on Bretts. But, the Harry Potter illistrator is from my home town ;D thats kindof cool. ST. PAUL, MINNISOTA, USA!

Simply? Helquist has style, Grand Pre has bad colour-schemes and nothing extraordinary style-wise, in my opinion.

Helquist rules. His style has inspired me, and the Snicket book covers are so wonderfully absurd, or possibly absurdly wonderful. Helquist's work for Snicket is both gloomy and hilarious.
