"Moving quickly and lightly; lively. Restlessly active or nervous; restive. Undependably variable; mercurial or fickle. Shy; bashful." Which of these meanings do you mean? Wow. I had always thought of "skittish" as meaning shy, because that's the definition that Hector himself implied. However, if you take it to mean "undependably variable, mercurial, or fickle" - that's just the way Hector BEHAVES - helpful at times, annoyingly unhelpful (to the point of being dangerous) at other times. So when he says, "I couldn't say anything; I'm too skittish" he doesn't mean, "I COULDN'T say anything; I'm too SHY." He really means "I WON'T say anything, I'm too FICKLE." Chef's salad behavior, anyone?

I too belive that some where in the twelvth and thirteenth book, the Baudelairs will join V.F.D., but then again mabey not. I guess it seems like if they did, it would mean that alot would have to happen it the last to books. Thank You. Editor

I don't think so either. Simply for the fact that if Hector was in diguise, he would have made a fatal error of VFD code or whatever by not using a false name. We know from the transcripts of that meeting that an H was itching to make a self-sustaining hot air balloon so I highly doubt he was in any kind of diguise. I'm convinved that in this next book we will be reunited with the two thirds of the Quagmires and Hector and maybe then he will have gotten over his skittishness from being away from the elders for a while. I certainly think that them not being around may help Hector to clear the Baudelarie names. The capture of the real Count Olaf would be nice as well....But we can't have our cake and eat it too.

I think Hector was in V.F.D. but retired after the Schism because of his skittishness.

I too believe that. If you look very closely at the top right corner of the picture at the end of TGG, you can see a tiny dirigible; possibly the hot air moblie home?

Yeah, Hector p***** me off. Anyway, what was I going to say? Oh yeah. To KlausBaudelaire15: The fact that you use two l's in plot gives the WHOLE you away.
