I was once about to try a cocktail called "Van Gogh" that contained absinthe, but I didnt have enough money and my friends didnt want to lend me some.

So, where's the "multiple drugs" button. I gave that stuff up about 2 years ago. Not really the most endearing habit. I don't trust people who do coke... I used to work with a couple of them... Now I drink heavily. Not advocating booze, no. It's just my one nasty vice. Although I must say, absinthe seems to be in my future, just cause.

I would like to try absinthe sometime. Because of all the 'thinkers' who used it, and artists, and because of the murder inTB8, just kidding. But if I do I would do it either alone or w/ a very close friend, cause I dont know what will happen.
I also would like to try what Marilyn Manson does, painting w/ watercolors while drinking absinthe.

I've haven't done any drugs, well morphine but since that was while I was in the hospital and it made me sick so I had to stop that doesn't count.
Hmm, I'm gonna have to ask some of my Canadian friends if they've ever tried absinthe.

I also would like to try what Marilyn Manson does, painting w/ watercolors while drinking absinthe. If I did any drugs, it would be solely for experimentational and... artistic purposes... Hmmm... definitely with you on the art thing. I mean, you don't get much cooler than Van Gogh. I mean, you don't get much more tortured-soul-tastic, either, but then again, maybe the two go hand in hand. They say in The Basic Eight that drugs had never appealed to them because of the ideas surrounding them (ie: "crystal meth evokes images of crazy hobos"), but Absinthe had a different kind of image that they liked. Definitely true. I mean... I wouldn't want to snort anything or get anything from the street and end up being a crazy hobo... but I'd feel cool and artsy sipping absinthe with a couple close friends and a paint set...

I don't know if it's legal in the U.S... you'd have to check up on that. It's legal in Canada, but you can only get it in about 3 provinces... So at 18 I'll go on a trip to Alberta and drink some Absinthe! We'll just see if that works out (none of my plans seem to) Oh, you and your valid points. I should check up on that, but most likely, I'll grab a friend and go to Canada for a weekend trip. We'll do fun artsy stuff. And get ahold of some absinthe. I can think of at least one friend who will do that with me. *nod* I feel funny planning that out. Heh.

No. I have never done drugs. Part of it I supose is knowing people who have taken drugs and the kind of long term side effects it can have. I already have health problems, I'm not about to add more just because something makes me feel nice for half an hour.

If... and here's the big IF... I ever decide to try something, I'll be sure to be under supervision of someone I trust completely, and I don't plan to do it until I'm much older. I know how much those things mess up your mind. But experience can be the best teacher.
I know a few people at my school who do marijuana... it's really pretty sad... one of them was walking around backstage at rehearsal asking everyone, "PLEASE can I have ten dollars?! I REALLY need it... I need to buy some pot... if you give me ten dollars I can give you some of it too... please?" And this is not an exaggeration.
And I don't think drugs are terrifically attached to morality. To an extent, it is giving in to temptation... but then, at the Last Supper Jesus used wine to symbolise His blood... and many Native American religions used all sorts of drugs, believing that they brought them closer to the gods. It really all depends on the way you look at it, I s'pose...

For anyone interestedi n heroin, here is a tip...if you don't OD you have a more than 70 percent chance of dying of either AIDS or hepatitis C, both agonizing ways to go (I've watched people die of both) I've popped my share of pills though. No X though. painpills, Soma and various other tranquilizers, all mostly prescribed to me but not used in the way they were intended. I don't make a habit of it, though. Yep, everyone, that's embalming fluid. Uck.

Guys, absinthe does have that aura of mysteriousness (mysteriosity?) around it since artists and poets used it, but you gotta remember that cocaine was also a glamorous drug for the rich before it became "mainstream," and didn't Sherlock Holmes do heroin or something? Actually, I think he did multiple drugs. Oh, and we can't forget opium! Opium was all the rage back in Victorian England. So if you're going to go by what was trendy for the suffering artists, then be sure to give them all equal love and I'll be sure to drop you some flowers in rehab or something.
And my opinion (as an artist) is that you shouldn't really risk doing something potentially dangerous to your body because you're interested in seeing what kind of pretty pictures you can make. If you're bad and want to improve, then for the love of God get some actual lessons instead of doing drugs. People who rely on that instead of building up their natural talent lose at life (and would make me feel very bitter because it took me years to get to where I am now. Not to imply that I think I'm the best artist ever, but I'm not half bad, either).

I never really payed any attention to absinthe before... then tonight I got on the net and started reading up on it. Seems it isn't a drug, at all. It's just green alcohol traditionally made with wormwood. These top link is a description and history of absinthe, the bottom link is a site that sells the liqueur. This stuff is expensive!www.thevirtualbar.com/IngredDict/Absinthe.html www.absinthespoon.com/

Lady Swans pointed me over here, I assume to tell you all the dangers of drugs....or to field questions about La fée verte. Does anyone still have the link to the other Absinthe discussion?

Madamluna, Holmes does Morphine and Cocaine regularly, and probably tries some other stuff casually... there's this one great mystery were Watson finds Holmes at an Opium den and freaks out... but moving on. Holmes also smokes like a chimney and seems to have at least one glass of brandy every story. ;D He was indeed a cool guy. Anyway, I'm not debating that drugs can screw you up, and I seriously doubt they do anything for artistic technique... all I'm saying is that people (including myself to a certain extent) are curious. Dreams (drug induced or not) tend to be inpsiring, and I can easily see how some drugs appeal to artsy types and have a certain aura (think Bohemian Paris, Victorian England) about them. But, yeah, they can mess with your head, and people shouldn't do drugs as a substitute for actually developping artistic ability. So, Kobo. What about Absinthe? Was it really bitter? Did it taste like other kind of alchohol? Go ahead... talk about your field experience...
