Did anyone read the book, or did everyone just see the movie? Toward the middle of the book Bastian was getting to be kind of evil. Did that happen in the movie? Was he played by the same guy all through, hence cutting the part where his second wish is to be handsome?
I started it because I saw it was by Micheal Ende, who wrote Momo which is probably one of the best books ever. Sam, you must have something to say since thou art rereading.

I have to go now, since I've been home for two whole hours, but for your profile the country is Fantastica, not Fantasia.

thanks pester ok...halfway through the book... he's becoming a bit conceited or something... not evil yet... although he isn't as good as he should be... but this has a lot to do with the losing of memories doesn't it?

That is a factor, but I don't think it's an excuse. There is good and evil in Fantastica also, and he chose while still losing memories that he wanted to only make good creatures, and not be remembered as the creator of monsters. On the other hand, it's probably more difficult to be good if you don't remember being a child, and don't remember what it was like to be afraid or ashamed. If you take Auryn's influence into accouynt, maybe he can't distinguish as well between good and evil because the Childlike Empress doesn't distinguish between good and evil and she affects her power and her power has the power to influence Bastian whether she would intend it to or not. Woah, run-on senteance.

i spose so...
hmm... i had a small discussion about the book today... me and my friend thought there must have been 2 versions of the book as we both remembered the random alphabet type game, however i hadn't come across it... i guess i was wrong as i finished reading it today and spotted that part... i just remembered it being earlier in the book...

"they can't talk anymore. they've lost the power of speech. so i thought up this game for them. as you can see it keeps them busy. it's very simple. if you stop to think about it, you'll have to admit that all the stories in the world consist essentially of 26 letters. the letters are always the same, only the arrangement varies. from letters words are formed, from words sentences, from sentences chapters, and from chapters stories. now take a look. what do you see there?" bastian read hgiklopfmweyvxq etc etc
it's in chapter XXIII, the city of old emperors

Have you actually read it in German? I agree that is a great book but I haven't read it in English at all. Is it different?

Did you read it in german, deadly? *crickets chirp* Acting as a representative for my good friend Viper, I can say that she probably did read it in German... she can speak it really well and has been to Germany a few times... ... leaving me all alone in the U.S.
