It is an awesome book. I recommend it to everyone. It's about a perfect world- until Jonas finds out a secret that destroys it all...

It didn't seem so perfect to start with- I wouldn't like an announcement over the loudspeakers every time my braids were ascew. It is good in other ways though, nobody appears to be hungry, no one ever gets hurt, no aids and such. If only it weren't for that random killing thing.

No color, no music, they kill you when you hit a certin age, assign your job, assign your spouse, no one says 'I love you", it wasn't perfect. It was a great book though.

It was a pretty good book... I'll probably read Gathering Blue someday. And Messenger, when it comes out...

I thought it was okay...I read it for my book group. But we had to hand the books back before I had a chance to read it. What happened at the end?

I'd rather live there than in this world. I mean, "o nooo! they kil wittle babyz how horruble!"
People die in r/l, it might as well be controlled and painless, eh?

But do people get released (in our terms, injected with a poisen that kills you instantly) when they have told 3 lies? Oh, and Souffle- What is Messanger? Is it by Luis Lowry? Does it have the same plot?

Gathering Blue is GREAT. its just as good as the giver. its kinda the "unofficial sequel" to the giver. same idea, but its different and really, really good.

I read this when I was younger, don't really remember it, but I remember the general storyline.
The world wasn't really perfect, it was just controlled... like in A Wrinle in Time, where It conrtolled everything and everyone was brainwashed. Anyway, I remember loving this book. It's a pretty quick read, too. *recommends*

Luckylemon, I can't go and read it myself. Our copies were taken away. Besides, my friend Jacob finished it, and he told me what happened.
