As far as animals go, I'd be a snake, an owl, or a hawk...I get this feeling of kinship whenever I see them. I start acting like they are, to an extent. I
For people, I was Napoleon or possibly a priestess of Sakhmet. Most people I associate with tend to be disturbed by me and call me a newer Napoleon for random reasons. The priestess thing....Sakhmet was always my favorite Egyptian goddess, and I (briefly) did the dark room/mirror thing and saw a face that looked remarkably like a statue of Sakhmet at the Field Museum. I need to do the mirror thing properly, though.

Maybe you will learn a lesson, though... maybe feelings you have about certain things are from lessons in past lives... like, say, in a past life, you had a choice of going to work right away, or going to college, but you never got a good job so you regretted that decision, then in this life you had a strong conviction to go to college, with no reasoning, and no pressure from other people, just that you felt that's what you had to do. ...I hope that made sense. Yeah, it made sense. It sounds good to me. Like sometimes I am compelled to do something stupid, I can just blame it on my past life...(Heehee, just kidding on the last bit)

I like the theory of buried memories from your past lives. For instance, if you lived a past life in Italy, you might find it unusually easy to learn Italian if that's not your first language. Or if you experience deja vu when visiting a certain place, you might have been there in a former incarnation. The idea of reincarnation lends itself well to odd stories.
I think that I was a crow, jay, or hawk in some past life, because those are my favorite birds. My mother was definitely a cat. She loves our cats greatly and seems to have the uncanny ability to understand them.
