I think he's referring to me. I know him, from another board - and, yeah, I've always figured that Kit was not short for anything. I guess it's because most of the ASOUE characters don't have nicknames.

Hey, VFDisco! It's good to see you! we seem to have had a lot of long lost friends returning recently.
Anyway: if VFD members are named after dead people, it may well be that Kit is just Kit, because she is named after a dead person who was always called Kit. The oriignal Kit may have been a woman named Katherine; but it can also be a man's name (short for Christopher).

Hey, Quags! I welcomed you back on the last thread I posted on, but still I'd like to say once more just how smashing it is to see you again. Anyway, I'm another of those people who never thought much on the idea that Kit was anything more than Kit. Very Funky Disco: Yeah, now that you mention it, we never seem to hear about any of the ASoUE characters having nicknames. Unless you count young Beatrice - and possibly Beatrice Senior - being called 'Bea', but I've only seen it mentioned in fanfiction, so... Hermes: You make a very good point about Kit having been named after someone whose full name was either Katherine or Christopher, but who was always referred to as 'Kit'. Interesting.

Phil is short for Phillip. There's also Ike, which is short for Isaac. There's also Hal, which is short for Harold.
Sunny is arguably a nickname.

Very true! Though I was sorely unaware that Ike and Hal were short for anything until you pointed it out.
I wonder what Sunny's real name might be, as it doesn't appear to be a shortened version of anything.

How can anyone not know that Kit is short for Katherine? I thought it was common knowledge.
