Nah, I think he planned it from the beginning. I just re-read the books 2 months ago and that's what I remember.

Is it just me, or did Faramir sound like he was Irish?

I know, I was like what the heck when they showed that scene. But who cares, he'll still be one of my fav characters.

Winzip is free, you can get it at winzip.com. It's worth it.

Ok, I just finished LotR again, and goodness! Cry, cry, cry, that's all I do. Did someone say before that they were leaving out "The Scourging of the Shire"? They had best not, lest they feel the wrath of the almighty Moony! Er, maybe not. But I've just realized, out of all three books, and then The Hobbit, my favorite chapter was "The Grey Havens," specifically the part where Sam goes around planting trees and sprinkling Galadriel's gift. They should at least have that chapter in the movie. Oh, wait, but how can that? Sam never got the gift from Galadriel. This is such a mess! Guys, help me! I feel so torn apart right now! Leave it to me to get all emotional about a book, it's just so sad! And happy! And lingering! He is a GENIUS I tell you! Out of the three series, I like Harry Potter the best as I'm reading it, but I like Tolkien better for the feeling you get once you've finished, how it just stays with you, and haunts you almost, until you can think of nothing else. It's so . . . profound. AH! Ok, I'll shut up. May God save a nice, cozy spot by him for Peter Jackson.

You just barely decribed something I haven't even tried to decribe: the feeling you get after you read Lord of the Rings. It's a great series isn't it? (you don't have to answer that)

They are leaving out Scouring of the Shire. It's because they didn't want to end it with a lesser climax than Pelanor Fields and the Battle of Morannon. And if you want to know how Saruman dies (big spoiler):
It's near the beginning of the movie, where the Rohirim ride to Orthanc. Saruman is on top of the tower with Wormtongue, and from up there, Wormtongue cuts his throat. Saruman falls from the top and lands on a large spike wheel, impaled (there was a picture of it in some making-of book, I think). As the wheel turns, the Palantir drops from his hand into the water. Then, Legolas shoots an arrow at Wormtongue, but misses. As Wormtongue laughs at him, he shoots another arrow, this one lodging itself straight into Wormtongue's skull.
There's also rumors about Morannon (which takes place during the Cracks of Doom). Aragorn might come to a duel with Sauron himself, but it might be the Mouth of Sauron. It was reported a while back on onering.net.
