I disagree. I read the fault in our stars and thought it was pretty good but the gender of the author had nothing to do with that. i dont know the quality of the book, but there's people that think of him as some sort of ~visionary~ when really he's just a dude who's writing teen stuff. he seems cool enough but when ladies write youth fiction targeted to young girls it's just silly teen girl stuff but when john green does it he's apparently amazing. he's like the maclemore of books. I've never really thought that people see him as a visionary for being an author though. To me it seems like they think he's an incredible person for all he's done with YouTube like the vlogbrothers, the nerdfighters, project for awesome, the Lizzie Bennett diaries, vidcon, and crash course and stuff. The fact that he's an author is just also sort of cool.

i have never read the fault in our stars but after googling some amazon reviews i could write something generic and samey about it after the librarian had forced me. rather like the novel's content itself huh

I'm not going to pretend I don't love the fault in our stars because I do. As Willow Smith would say, the only thing you should do is what you want.

I remember Diablo Cody, the writer of Juno, being hailed as this visionary former stripper with a tough life and whatnot even though she wrote "silly teen girl stuff" as well, maybe spiced up with some hip teenage language which no teen has ever used. But I like your comparison, "the macklemore of books."

I mean he seemed so to me but I haven't really read alot of young adult fiction so I'm not sure how similar his writing style is to other people If its similar and he gets credit for being a "visionary" then that's kind of lame. But It doesn't seem like people think of him as a visionary (to me anyway). Maybe it's just that the attraction is coming from him being a guy In a lady field, in the same way that women sometimes become notable for being ladies in a guy field? If that makes sense Man cohesive thoughts are hard sorry if this doesn't make sense
