# 5 - The Escape
'Where are we going?' asked Willis. 'Somewhere safe,' said Sherry Ann. 'And where is that?' asked Willis. 'Out of the city.' 'What?' said Willis 'I can't just leave. I'm in the middle of solving a case.' 'If you don't leave you'll be dead, then you will always be in the middle of it.' Sherry Ann began to run up the fire escape. 'Okay,' said Willis, following her. It's Sherry Ann, he said to himself. She knows what she's doing. I don't really know what I'm doing,' said Sherry Ann, 'coming here to meet you in the city. What was I thinking? Her little birds are all over the city.' 'What?' 'Her little birds.' 'Whose?' 'Songbird,' said Sherry Ann, as she reached the roof. Willis was surprised to see a hot air balloon there. 'What does Songbird want with you?' 'Everything.' She ran over to the basket and began to set things up. 'Every single thing I know. Thats what she wants. But there is one thing she wants in particular, and that... that is why I shouldn't have met you.' 'What does she want to know?' Sherry Ann sighed. 'She wants to know what you want to know.' 'I want to know what the hell is going on' 'Then come with me.' She raised her arms, and Willis looked at the hot air balloon. 'We're escaping in a hot air balloon?' 'Well of course,' said Sherry Ann. 'What better way to escape than to escape in style?'

# 6 - The Missing
'Do you want a cookie?' 'No thanks,' said Aang. 'You sure?' Aang sighed. 'Yes, Luke, I'm sure.' '… How much longer?' 'Too long.' Aang and Luke were on a mission. It wasn't a very exciting one, to be honest, but it was a mission none the less. Pandora had to talk to Antenora, and whilst she was busy 'following up a lead' she had suggested that the two of them try and talk to LSWannabe. As the person who had known Freebird best, maybe she could shed some light on his current whereabouts. 'What do you think?' said Luke. 'What?' said Aang. 'Do you think he's dead? I think he's dead. Freebrid I mean. He might not be dead. But if he is dead, then I think he wrote those things on the walls so we could find out why someone killed him. But if he isn't dead I don't know why he wrote that, but if he is then I think "Bird" means th-' 'Luke?' interjected Aang. 'Hmm?' 'Shut up.' 'Sorry,' said Luke. Aang wasn't pleased that he had to work with Luke. They didn't get on too well. LSWannabe lived on the far side of the town, but there wasn't much more of the lake left. Luke ate another cookie and a few moments later they arrived at the house. 'So now what?' said Luke Aang walked up to the door and knocked. They waited for a few moments. There was no answer. Aang knocked again... still no answer. Aang reached into his pocket and pulled out a small metal device. He placed it over the lock of the door, and said something under his breath that Luke couldn't hear. The next second the door opened, and Aang put the the small metal thing back in his pocket. 'what did you just do?' asked Luke. 'It's a secret' said Aang, and he walked into the house, and Luke followed. Aang walked into the hallway and shouted 'hello? Anyone there.' 'Nobody's home,' siad Luke, and he pointed to the floor. There was a large pile of letters gathered on the floor. 'And it looks liek there hasn't been for a while.' 'Okay, Luke, you stay here and make sure nobody comes in. I'll take a look around upstairs.' Aang walked up the stairs. The house was quite small, with only a few rooms, and Aang headed straight for the bedroom. As soon as the opened the door, he turned aroudn and went back downstairs. 'Change of plan,' he siad to Luke, 'I need you to phone Pandora and tell her that I found Freebrid and LSWannabe but it's too late. They're already dead.'

# 7 - The Snow
Several years ago
It was snowing. And Hermes was cold. He looked at the time on his watch. He'd been waiting for nearly an hour now. But it was worth the wait. He stood up again. There was no point in sitting down, he was too impatient. He fingered the small bag he held in his hand, and he had to check one more time. He untied the string holding the bag together, and reached his hand, and pulled out one small singular diamond, before putting it back. It was enough, he told himself. It would believe him. He looked at his watch again. It was one minute later than the last time he checked. If he waited to much longer he'd freeze to death. The snow was beginning to get quite deep now, and it would be difficult to find his way back home again. But he was getting ahead of himself. He didn't even know if it what was going to happen. Hermes sat back down, and he could feel the cold through his clothes. The snow was falling onto Hermes' face and into his eyes, making it even more difficult to see what was happening. A few minutes later, and Hermes decided there was no point anymore. He was in the middle of a wood in the middle of a blizzard in the middle of the night, and it was freezing cold. Nobody was coming. He picked up the torch, and stood up, and began to head back, leaving footprints in the increasing snow. But then Hermes could feel something. The hairs stood up on the back of his neck, and it wasn't from the cold. He turned around and saw it. The Wolf was standing there, its clothes ripped and torn and covered in blood. 'What happened?' Hermes asked it. The Wolf said nothing. 'Ha, doesn't matter.' Hermes put down the torch, reached into his pocket, and pulled out the small bag again. I have something for you.' 'You have nothing that could interest me,' said the Wolf. 'Oh, I believe I do.' He reached into the bag and pulled out a diamond again. 'The diamonds?' The Wolf didn't seem interested. 'So?' 'I will give them to you, if you do something for me.' 'And what's that then?' 'You know what. Leave her alone.' The Wolf walked over, and stratched out an arm. Hermes gave it the bag. Te Wolf didn't even open it, he put it straight into his pocket. 'He won't leave her alone,' said the Wolf, 'he never will. But I'll pass on the message.' Hermes sighed. 'If he doesn't, then everything that happens from now on is on him. He's the one that changed the rules.' The Wolf let out a small laugh. It was the most chilling sound Hermes had ever heard. 'You want to blame Dante for this? You were the one who started this. Everything was supposed to be so simple, but then you had to interfere and now here we all are playing our little games. And once Dante will kill us, he'll kill all of us, just because you were so selfish.' 'Selfish?' said Hermes, angrily. 'He's the one who's selfish. I have given everything, my whole life, to ensuring the safety of 667. And I have had nothing in return.' 'Now Hermes,' said a voice from the shadows, 'we both know that's not true.' Dante walked into the cealring, and brushed some snow away from the fallen tree and sat down. 'You got her,' he said. 'What are you doing here?' Hermes asked. 'I've come to give you a message.' 'From who?' he asked. It's from Emma. Her husband is injured. Badly.' 'What? How?' 'He was in an accident. A car accident. He was in the driver's seat and... let's just say he was hardly in a condition to be driving anywhere.' 'Tiago wouldn't do that,' said Hermes, 'he wouldn't be as stupid as that.' 'That's a very good point,' said Dante. 'It's almost as if someone meant for him to crash that car. Now who do you possibly think that could be.' Hermes opened his mouth and then closed it again, and he thought for a while before opening it once more. 'Why are you telling me this?' 'I'm showing you just how far I'm willing to go until you give her back to me.' 'She doesn't love you,' siad Hermes, 'she loves me.' 'No, she doesn't. She's just scared.' Dante stood up, and took off his gloves. 'Scared of me, and scared of him.' He pointed to the Wolf. 'And the only reaaon for that is because of you, and the things you've done and the lies you've told.' Dante held out a hand to the Wolf, and the Wolf gave him the diamonds. Dante opened them, took one out and felt it in his hand. He turned the bag upside down, and for a moment the diamonds and the snow fell together, and disappeared into the ground. 'I know what the diamonds look like, Hermes. You can't fool me. Now, I should be getting along, and so should you.' Hermes turned to look at the Wolf. 'Tragedy,' he said, 'let me help you.' 'No,' said the Wolf, 'it's too late now.' It's not too late, Tragedy.' 'I'm not Tragedy anymore. I'm only the Wolf.' The Wolf turned to leave, and Sante followed him. Hermes stood in the snow, and looked down to where the fake diamonds had been scattered. He picked up his thinds once more, and turned to look at the tree. It was 10 years now since he and Antenora had first come here. And in those ten years, everything had gotten worse. He wished he could go back in time and tell himself not to do the things that he'd done, to make the right choices. But in the end, would he really have been any happier than he was now? He began to make his way back home. The snow was very deep across th fields, but as he began to walk back theough the city it was easier walking. He passed 667, and paused for a moment, looking up at the buliding. It has been the night of the christmas party, but now it was so late that nobody was at the building anymore. He slowly trudged back home, and opened the door queitly, and he creeped into the front hall. He brushed the snow off of his coat, and was surprised to notice a light was still on usptairs. 'Antenora,' he called, with a sguth snese fo trepedation 'Hermes?' she said back. Hermes dashed upstairs quickly, and saw Antenora standing in the hallway. She looked nervous. 'What is it, what's wrong?' he asked her. 'It's.. it's nothing, it's just...' She was walking up and down. 'Well no, it is something but it's not really something wrong, it's just a... thing.' 'What is it? Is it Dante?' 'No, it's not that, it's just... Hermes...' She smiled for a brief second. 'I'm pregnant.'

A sguth snese?
Well, Mister M, this is .... interesting. Beyond that, I'm not sure what to say, except perhaps, as my personal text would have it, 'um'.
