I really don't see, given what Mr Handler says, how it can be Sunny, unless we take 'the text' to be the entire corpus of Snicket's works.

(If this were Harry Potter fandom, we would now divide into Sunnyites and Solitudinarians, each insisting that the other has missed the whole point of the series.)
