i want to preface anything else i say with stating that this is my favorite thing that has happened on this forum since i joined whether it is genuine or not
i agree with charlie about communicating w/ ur kid's teachers about why they think it best he wait bc i doubt they just pick a random kid every year to hold back for funsies, ofc then you've gotta decide how valid u think their reasoning is. ultimately it doesn't really matter that much bc him being a few months older than the other 17 and 18 y/o students he graduates with won't ruin his future career or get him ridiculed by his classmates or whatever, just make sure young nintendo ain't dating any freshmen when he's an 18 y/o senior bc that can get real illegal real quick

it's a icklein crime that this missed the cutoff for best thread nominations There's always next year (I was just going to write that without quoting you, but then I realised that it could also apply to Isaac's question). I really hope this is genuinely a parent accidentally posting on the wrong forum, but then actually getting good and insightful advice from a bunch of teenagers and childless people in their early twenties. Also... [...] we can financially afford another year of pre-school [...] Can I just mention my sincere disgust at the notion that money has to be a factor in how children are educated?

I always think it's good to send children to school a bit later, because it gives them another year of childhood with more time for playing and fun and less having to sit and concentrate and learn, and later another year of not having to know what they want to do after they finish school. Most people I know from all over the world were still in high school (or their country's equivalent) when they were 18, and most of the ones who finished when they were younger didn't know what to do with the rest of their life yet.
Also people are more likely to feel excluded when everyone else in their class is turning 13/16/18 (or any other age where you are allowed to do more stuff than before) and go out and do stuff that you are allowed to do from a certain age, and they can't because they are a few months younger.

Can I just mention my sincere disgust at the notion that money has to be a factor in how children are educated? education is free, pre-school isn't bc it isn't education.

having gone to pre-school for 2 years, i can say that it was primarily a daycare service rather than a place that held daily lessons on various subjects ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
having gone to public school for 13 years, i can say that my parents never had to pay the institutions to let me attend classes there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
