PART ONE - EACH AND EVERY
Arthur Poe was a quaint man.
He loved his wife, his children, his job, his life.
Alike a sinister 'groundhog day', Mr. Poe was concrete in his routine.
Each and every day he woke, each and every day he dressed. Each and every day he combed through his straggly, tar-black hair with styling wax, which could have easily passed as being kitchen grease. Each and every day he grasped his magenta toothbrush firmly in his calloused hands, and brushed his coffee-stained teeth, peering through a murky mirror which was covered in the markings of a working family and neglected chores. Each and every day for twelve years he had worked for Mulctuary Money Management. First, as a low-level, banker, then he slowly began to climb the snakes and ladders of bureaucracy, until he gained status. His prized accomplishment were his promotions, from Vice President in charge of coins, and later Vice President in Charge of Orphan Affairs.
A silly little routine he had acquired, but it was familiar, it was comfortable.
But still, he was yearning for more.
More of what? You might ask, but he himself was unsure. More of what...
