Fiction and poetry tend to be based more description and theme rather than research. In fanfiction, you should go back and read the source material(or atleast a summary
of it)unless it's a parody, but with original fiction and poetry you don't really need research, although it can make for good inspiration, you just need to be able to write well.
Anyway, I enjoy writing fanfiction, poetry, and short stories, and have some novels that I'm working on.
