There is bound to be snow up there for sure because during the book it said something like the Bauds could see patches of snow on the mountain and in the end of the book lemony snickets letter to the editor was missing words because his typwriter got so cold

An avalanche is a good bet. It sounds like something he would do. Maybe the two powder faced women will disappear under the snow? He's going through henchman like they're Defense Against the Dark Arts professors!

I think it has to do with the Mortmain Mountains.

OK, i'm practically asleep here, but I think The Slippery Slope could mean something else as well. I'm betting that LS is using it kind of metaphorically, too, like when something starts that can't be stopped and keeps getting worse and worse. That's on a slippery slope. I just think this because the last few books seem to get more dramatic and fast-paced each time. Like they all take off right where the previous one finished, while the early ones had a definite finish and the next book started somewhere else. I'm betting that this book starts the final build-up to the last book, where things get really bad. Who knows, the Baudelaires may not find each other again until the end? Anyway, these are just my sleep-induced ramblings. If they seem stupid, just ignore them.
