I would appreciate hearing more of your thoughts on lost. Definitely. I'm still early in Season 2, and I do have a very vague sense of how the show ended (I didn't watch the show back when it aired, but can remember bits and pieces through cultural osmosis at the time). But the show is mostly a blank slate for me, so I'm approaching it with an open mind. And of course drawing comparisons with The End, which was actually great timing. So far I'm really enjoying the interconnectedness of the characters in their pre-crash lives, and how certain events placed them on that particular flight. Lots of discussions about fate and chance. Like ASOUE I also enjoy the secrets and mysteries being uncovered -- the Dharma Initiative has me intrigued (what little I know so far lol).

I think season 2 is when things start to get more layered. It's a complex show (with a complex reputation), but i like it a lot. Do keep me updated (though perhaps not in this thread!)

Chapter 12
Describing the spores as feeling like the footstep of an ant walking down their throats is so creepy. And even though we experienced the Mycelium up close in TGG, the details of how it's affecting the Baudelaires under the tree is still horrifying.
I hope at least one person out there was skimming TE and got super confused seeing the line from TBB lol
I like the flipping of the Genesis story, with a snake offering life-saving fruit. Brett Helquist further references this in his artwork for The Complete Wreck, in which he depicts Violet receiving the apple from Ink (who is hanging from the branches) in a pose clearly meant to evoke the classic Eve/serpent paintings.

Chapter 12 I’ve found that happiness and despair are equally easy to become desensitized to, but maybe that’s just me. Sunny’s knowledge of spices is certainly impressive. I had to look up eutrema. While this is my least favourite book, I have to admit I really like this climax. The Baudelaire parents’ book is called A Series Of Unfortunate Events. I wish I could think of something else to say but that’s pretty interesting. Ink giving the Baudelaires an apple is so wholesome. I, too, like how it flips the Genesis story.

Chapter 13 Curious to know what the book about the apple-loving girl is. I don’t think laughing is a particularly common reaction to a near-death experience. I’d think that the fungus would make the islanders less likely to take Ishmael’s suggestions, not more. Would love to know how Ink got to the island. So Fiona wanted Klaus to forgive her?Evidence for Kliona. I kind of want to read an Olaf spinoff. I agree with Sunny, that’s disgusting.

So Fiona wanted Klaus to forgive her?Evidence for Kliona. I kind of want to read an Olaf spinoff. a) Surely the fact that Klaus and Fiona kissed back in TGG is evidence enough for their relationship. It's something of a moot point with the Great Unknown, though. b) I think that would be fascinating, if disturbing.

Chapter 13
Shout-out to all the typewriter repairpeople who helped Lemony over the course of his investigation.
I want a series where Friday and Ink survive and team up on the mainland to have adventures (and uncover the truth about her father).
I have a Jewish acquaintance whose family also names their children after people who died.
'The Night Has a Thousand Eyes' is one of my favorite poems to quote, thanks to this book.
I like how Lemony brought back the definition for 'aberrant' which he used at the close of TBB.
All these years later and I'm still bummed out by Kit's death.

Chapter 14 Beatrice was going to name Violet Lemony if she were a boy, but had a boy 2 years later and didn’t name him Lemony. Beatrice II saying cake reminds me of Sunny saying cake in TRR. I love that last sentence before the blip about Helquist, “Lemony Snicket is still at large.”

Chapter 14
After 13 books of high stress and anxiety, I'm glad the Baudelaires got to have a year on the island to decompress. They needed it.
It's cool to see Sunny speaking fluently, while the baby talk now goes to little Beatrice. And I like how Sunny naturally understands her the best.
I'd love to know which P.G. Wodehouse novels Klaus brought. Hopefully some of the Jeeves books, which are my favorite.
At least we get some snippets about the future in The Beatrice Letters.
I can't believe the series is over! And in a couple years The End will turn 20! I was 17 when this book was first published, and next week I'll be turning 35 (yikes). I remember being a bit bummed out that we didn't get conclusive answers for a lot of things. But as I've gotten older and had more life experiences (including the loss of a parent) I've come to appreciate the themes in this book a whole lot more. And you know, that's probably why I keep coming back to the series (besides the fun characters, cool settings, and witty writing). Every time I crack open an ASOUE book I get to be a detective, searching for clues and formulating theories. I love it!
